PSN, PSN Minis: In-Depth: North American Playstation Network Sales, February 2010

top10imgpsn.png[GamerBytes editor Ryan Langley examines February 2010's PlayStation Network debuts and continuing successes, with charts and leaderboard data, to find out what digital PSN titles are doing well at the start of the year.]

Back in 2008 February was the launching pad for several big titles - Flower, Noby Noby Boy and NHL 3-On-3 Arcade, but this year it's very quiet - Greed Corp and Fret Nice.

Can either of them stand up against last years titles, and how are older titles doing right now? We take a look at the PlayStation Network Top 10 for North America as well as Leaderboard statistics for a selection of popular titles to see how well games are selling on the service.

DSiWare, PSN, PSN Minis, WiiWare, XBLA: GDC Sees Record Attendance, Reveals 2011 Dates

Organizers of the 2010 Game Developers Conference, the world's largest industry-only event dedicated to the advancement of interactive entertainment, has announced an all-time record of 18,250 game industry professionals attending San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center for the March 9th-13th event.

Surpassing last year's total of 17,000 attendees, the event - created by the UBM Techweb Game Network, as is this website - brought together experienced game developers, publishers, deal makers, industry aspirants and working press for more than 400 lectures, panels, summits, tutorials and roundtable discussions.

Offering a full five days of content, the event also hosted an extensive Exposition floor, featuring the biggest firms in the games space alongside the Career Pavilion and associated Game Career Seminar.

Also presented were the 12th Annual Independent Games Festival, the 10th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards, Game Connection America, and more opportunities for networking, discussing business, sharing knowledge, and meeting with equally-devoted fellow developers.

Following the success of the show, organizers of the Game Developers Conference have announced that GDC 2011 will return to the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco from Monday, February 28 to Friday, March 4, 2011, with a call for lecture submissions to open this Summer.

PSN, PSN Minis, WiiWare, XBLA: Team 17 Update On Upcoming Projects And DLC

team17logo.jpg

Team 17 have updated their current situation of their upcoming digital titles, courtesy of their Facebook page.

First up - the PlayStation Network will be receiving the Xbox Live Arcade title Worms 2 Armageddon closer to the summer, and is currently in closed beta testing. The PSN version will include additions, enhancements, modifications and a few surprises compared to its Xbox Live Arcade brother.

Meanwhile the Xbox Live Arcade version will soon be getting a Battle Pack DLC, which features a bunch of new single player and multiplayer content with new achievements and play modes. The expansion will pop up this Spring, price is not finalized.

Worms: Battle Islands, which is coming to both WiiWare and PSP (digital only, but not a mini) will be launching sometime in spring - fully featured titles and published by Team 17 themselves - they're happy to note that this will have no crazy publisher intervention like they've had in the past. They'll be launching in Spring, with more news coming soon.

Alien Breed Evolution is still on its way to the PlayStation Network, and the second episode in the series will be shown at GDC.

Team 17 are still hard at work on more titles but aren't disclosing anything right now.3 to 4are all likely set for digital distribution. Whether they're more episodes of Alien Breed, more Rebirths (Superfrog!) or entirely new IP, well we'll have to wait and see.

PSN, PSN Minis: NA PSN Store Update - Penny Arcade Bundle, Vector TD, Cheap Puzzle Fighter And More

rainslick.jpg

Pretty quiet on the PlayStation Network today - a new bundle that includes both Episode 1 and Episode 2 of the Penny Arcade Adventures series can now be bought for $14.99 - that's less than the purchase of the first episode on the Xbox Live Arcade! We also have a cheaper Puzzle Fighter HD Remix - now $4.99 for a week.

We also have a new expansion for Topatoi, the Pillar Of The Skies expansion ($7.99) has new environments and a cooperative mode, oddly priced since the main game costs that much now.

For minis we've got 5 new titles - one of them is VectorTD, a new desktop tower defense title for $3.99. The 4 other titles are Digi-Tiles ($2.99), Earthshield ($2.99), Legend of Kunoichi ($2.99) and Smashbreak ($2.99), but we know very little about them. We've got ESRB descriptions but no screenshots - apparently they're made by Sony themselves? Who knows.

PSN, PSN Minis: SNK Titles Getting Their Own PSN Classics Line?

snklogo.jpg

According to the ESRB and the Australian Classification board, classic SNK titles will be coming to the PlayStation Network, and playable on both the PS3 and PSP.

Alpha Mission II, Baseball Stars Professional, League Bowling and Super Sidekicks have all been rated on the ESRB for both systems. This appears to be based on the same sort of deal that PSOne Classics and the Japanese Turbografx titles are based on - strictly emulated titles to download on both systems.

Based on the initial lineup, the pickings seem to be pretty small. Games like the King of Fighters and games that have already appeared on the Xbox Live Arcade. In fact, all these titles have not been on the Nintendo Virtual Console either, so it seems that there are a lot of exclusitivity involved with SNK titles on digital platforms at the moment.

We should get an official update soon, hopefully with a list of upcoming titles.
