PSN, XBLA: New Rocket Knight Footage, Looks A Whole Lot Better
A couple of months ago Konami revealed a new Rocket Knight title was in the works, but I wasn't much of a fan. Now some new footage has popped up, and it's looking a whole lot better.
The above trailer, along with footage of the rail and flight and hard modes, show off how the game players far better than the original footage, and now looks to play more like the originals. It's also good to see a remix of the original theme music too - nothing courts favor like pulling on those nostalgia strings.
Now I'm quite excited to see where this game will lead to now. Jeremy Parish's new preview is quite upbeat too. Here's hoping Climax know what they're doing.
[We round up the top console digital download news of the last week from GamerBytes, including brand-new game announcements and scoops from the world of Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare, PSP Minis and DSiWare.]
It's been a bit of a slow week for news, but there's been plenty of new, quality titles on the digital front to keep you occupied - Alien Breed Evolution, Final Fantasy VIII, Star Ship Patrol, and now all of those PSP minis (with the exception of Tetris) will now work on your PlayStation 3. Good times for all.
PomPom Games have been notable for their Mutant Storm series on XBLA and Astro Tripper on PSN, but now they're working on a new mini title - Alien Zombie Death.
Unlike their previous efforts, Alien Zombie Death is a shooter with platforming elements, shooting hundreds of zombies and aliens while jumping around to different layers of the world.
PomPom say the game should pop up for around £2.50GBP, which would be about $2.99USD. It should be popping up fairly soon, so keep a look out for it.
XBLA: This Week On XBLA - 0 Day Attack On Earth, Trials HD DLC, Cheap Shadow Complex
While you might assume it would be quiet around Christmas time, the Xbox Live Arcade is anything but this week. Three big titles to get into this week, all looking quite good.
First up - 0 Day Attack On Earth from Square Enix and Gulti will be available this Wednesday for 1200 Microsoft Points. Currently the developers are chatting quite a lot over on their facebook page, something usually unseen from the Japanese side of development. Go and say hi.
Secondly - Trials HD will receive a big expansion pack this week, dubbed the Big Pack. 35 new tracks, 50 new objects, 5 new tournaments, 3 achievements, and all for 400MSP. It's a must for any Trials fan.
Finally this week, the deal of the week is Shadow Complex. A bit odd honestly, the game only came out a few months ago and still is in the Top 10 regularly, it certainly doesn't need a price cut. But whatever - it's 800MSP this week, down from 1200 for those with Xbox Live Gold accounts. Go get it.
DSiWare, WiiWare: NA Nintendo Update - Super Smash Bros, UNO, Dragon's Lair And More
A bunch of new releases today on the two Nintendo channels, but which ones will you be grabbing?
On the WiiWare front is Eco Shooter: Plant 530 for 1,000 Points - a strange rail shooter where you fight off trash, TV Show King 2 - the sequel to the original Gameloft hit for 800 Points, and Pallurikio for 1,000 Points.
For the Virtual Console we've got the originalSuper Smash Bros for 1,000 Points and the original Arcade Ninja Gaiden game.
XBLA: Xbox Indies - Arkedo Series 003 - Pixel! Now Available
The third game in the Arkedo series on Xbox Live Indie Games has appeared - you can now join Pixel the Cat in this journey to stomp on Tomato people and solve pixel puzzles.
PSN, PSN Minis: How To Find Minis On The PlayStation Store
With PSP minis having now worked their way on the PlayStation 3, you might be a little confused as to how it all works, well one of the developers have answered your call.
Halfbrick Studios have thrown together a little tutorial to show how you re-download your previously purchased minis, and where to find them on the download store. After re-downloading them you can play it straight away. The games look surprisingly good when played on a big TV too.
[Full disclosure, I do work for Halfbrick, but not on this title.]
In what could be seen as the first ever example of Microsoft promoting a Xbox Live Indie Game title, today's Deal Of The Day is Avatar Golf by Barkers Crest Studios.
For today only, those of you in the US and Japan can get the game for either 200 Points or 160 Points - it's not quite clear. Either way, it's a good deal. You can download the demo here.
Valcon Games' Pengo-styled block pusher Polar Panic will also be getting released this week, for just 800 Microsoft Points / $9.99USD.
Polar Panic has kept a very low profile since its reveal a month ago, but it's actually looking like a quality action-puzzle game. Definitely something to check out this Christmas day. Be sure to check it out this Wednesday for XBLA, and Tuesday for the PlayStation Network.
Capcom's Dark Void is coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at the start of 2010, but in a similar fashion to Bionic Commando, a retro-styled de-make is also being developed for DSiWare.
Dark Void Zero has you control William Grey, a lost traveller who went into the Dark Void and now must Jetpack his way around destroying Aliens. It's an 8-bit styled "what if?" project coming from Airtight Games, who are developing the retail game.
It looks great, they've certainly nailed the style and the music for an NES title, and the game seems to play a lot like an old Apogee favorite Alien Carnage / Halloween Harry, which could only be a good thing.
The game will be hitting in January for the low price of 500 Points. In the meantime, check out Gamespot's preview for more footage.
Gamearts upcoming WiiWare game The Magic Obelisk (also known as Shadow Walker) will be out in North America this Monday, December 28th.
The Magic Obelisk is a puzzle game where you have to lead Lukus to the end of the level by manipulating shadows. It features over 30 stages and will be available for just 500 Nintendo Points.
PSN, PSN Minis: EU PSN Store Update - Hustle Kings, Vagrant Story, A Ton Of Deals And More
This holiday season Sony Europe are celebrating with some quality new titles and a bunch of special deals in this early PSN Store update.
This week you can grab Hustle Kings, which is about as close you could probably get to Snooker porn. Following up with a quality PSOne Classic - Vagrant Story, a somewhat forgotten Square title with a fantastic art style and fascinating battle system.
In terms of minis we've got Bowling 3D, Cubixx, International Snooker and Tiger Trouble. Also Savage Moon: The Hera Campaign is also out, a PSP only version of Savage Moon tower defense.
Finally a bunch new deals that last until the 7th of January - Fat Princess and Warhawk have been added alongside Bomberman Ultra, Burn Zombie Burn and a bunch of other games. Keep reading for the full list.
PSN, PSN Minis: NA PSN Store Update - Polar Panic, Battle Fantasia, PixelJunk Pack And Deals, Deals, Deals
This week in North America comes 2 new PSN titles - Polar Panic, a block pushing game to help rescue the Polar Bear's family, and Battle Fantasia, a retail-come-download fighting game.
For PSOne Classics we've got Wing Commander IV, which is quite a throwback and a hefty file size (2.25GB!) as well as Bowling 3D and Savage Moon: The Hera Campaign for your PSP.
Todays Deal Of The Day on the Xbox Live Arcade is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, available right now for just 560MSP - 56% off the regular price. Go grab it now!
There was also a supposed leaked list of deals for this week, and while they got the first day wrong, this day was correct. You may be seeing UNO Rush, Monkey Island, Magic: The Gathering, Braid, Castle Crashers and Battlefield make the deals list, so keep a look out for the next week.
XBLA: XBLA Update - 0 Day Attack On Earth, Polar Panic, And Trials HD DLC
Three good releases this week for the Xbox Live Arcade - Polar Panic, a block pushing action puzzler is now available for 800MSP, and from what I've played of the demo it's actually quite fun. I might dive into it a bit more later.
The second release this week is 0 Day Attack On Earth, for 1200MSP, but there seems to be a problem with the download file. Right now it's coming up as an error, but the developers are on it, and I suggest following their Twitter profile to know when the game has started to work again.
The final release is the Trials HD "Big Pack" DLC which you can grab for 400MSP. From what I've played so far it's quite difficult, but still a ton of fun. You can download that here.
For today only UNO Rush has been made available for 400MSP - 50% off its regualr price. Some might say this is what it should have cost in the first place - if you're one of those people, go grab it now.
This is the second game of the leaked list that has been correct, so expect Secret Of Monkey Island to be half off tomorrow morning.
