XBLA: SNK PlayMore Details Upcoming XBLA Lineup

neogeolineup.jpg

Back in late 2009 SNK revealed several titles that were coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, but we've not heard a peep since. Today they've readjusted their XBLA lineup, and have also added one new fighter into the mix.

Neo Geo Battle Coliseum has now been announced for the Xbox Live Arcade, a 2-on-2 fighter released in 2005 featuring a ton of characters from all kinds of SNK classics, from King of Fighters to Metal Slug. This will be the first Atomiswave game that will be available on the Xbox Live Arcade, but whether it will feature any of the extras from the PlayStation 2 version (or even english subtitles, if KOF'98 XBLA is to go by) is unknown.

SNK have also reiterated that King Of Fighters 2002 is still coming to the system as well as their crazy top-down shooter King Of Fighters Skystage. Metal Slug 7 is also still coming, but now known as Metal Slug XX, a remix version of 7 that is also coming to the PSP.

Battle Coliseum, SkyStage and Metal Slug are expected to hit in the Spring, while KOF 2002 will hit in Summer. Hopefully SNK will put a little more effort in these releases than they did their 2009 lineup.

DSiWare: This Is Reflect Missile (Q-Games)

Nintendo may not want to tell you about Q-Games Reflect Missile, but we're not gonna let the man keep us down.

Nintnedo philantheopist Nintendaan posted this quick look at the game. Reflect Missile is a mixture of brick breaking games like Arkanoid with Puzzle Bobble gameplay, and is apparently also awesome.

If you don't want more clocks and calculators on your Nintendo DSi, I suggest investing in games like this.

DSiWare, WiiWare: NA Nintendo Update - Rayman, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Stop Stress And More

raymanupdate.jpg

Say what you will about the quality of Nintendo's offerings as of late, but they seem to have the quantity thing down. Thankfully we've also got some great games out this week too, now it's just a matter of choosing what to buy.

DSiWare starts off strong with Rayman, a port of the original Rayman game that came out many moons ago. We don't know much about this version right now, but at the very least it looks better than the Gameboy Advance version. The GBA version's main flaw was the awful music - hopefully that has been fixed for this iteration. Only 800 Points for a damn fine platform game.

Alongside Rayman comes Ball Fighter for 500 Points, Pop Island for 500, Army Defender for 200 and myNotebook: Red for 200. That's some pretty decent stuff.

WiiWare has 4 of its own releases with MAGNETIS for 500 Points, Stop Stress: A Day of Fury for 800, My Dolphin for 500 and Flowerworks for 1,000.

Big surprise for Virtual Console this week - Street Fighter Alpha 2 for the Super Nintendo - a SNES port of the Arcade game that's incredibly rare, and used some crazy compression methords in order to get all the animation tucked in there. I never would have expected it to come out again, so I'm glad Capcom are on top of things. Alongside that is the Arcade version of Shinobi.

You can check out trailers for each game by clicking the link below.

XBLA: In-Depth: Xbox Live Arcade Sales Analysis, November 2009

xbtop10.jpg[GamerBytes editor Ryan Langley examines November 2009's Xbox Live Arcade debuts and continuing successes, with charts and leaderboard data, to find out what digital XBLA titles are doing well at this year's end.]

November was a big month for retail games - Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed II, Left 4 Dead 2 and scores of other games hit the shelves across the world. But how does the Xbox Live Arcade cope under the pressure?

Last month, we took a look at a big selection of Xbox Live Arcade titles. This month we rein it back in a little, but continue to look at all new releases and many other catalog items over the past year.

Nine new games were released on the Xbox Live Arcade in November, including the rest of the Telltale's Wallace & Gromit series, Diner Dash and Square Enix's Gyromancer. Here's how they fared:

DSiWare: Trailer - Rayman DSi (Ubisoft)

Ubisoft's forgotten mascot Rayman finally made his return this week for Nintendo's DSiWare, but we didn't hear anything about it before its release - so what is it?

Rayman is a DS remake of the original Rayman, released on the original PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It was re-released as Rayman Advance for the GBA with poorer sound. It was a straight-up 2D platformer in the land of 3D, and was also damn difficult.

Nintendaan spotted this video of the game on the Nintendo Channel, and it shows that the game doesn't have any of the poor sound from the Advance version, and apparently it uses the DSi camera somewhere in the game. The game also uses the second screen in a really weird map version of the level, which doesn't really show you a whole lot more of the screen. Seems kind of pointless.

Still, sounds like it's still the same great game. If you're up for some hair-propellor action, check this out.

PSN Minis, XBLA: QIX++ On XBLA This Week , Also Coming To PSP

qix14.jpg

This week's Xbox Live Arcade release is QIX++, a remake of Taito's strange 1981 arcade title. There's still no official screenshots available, but Taito have also announced that the game is coming to PSP in February 2010.

The PSP version appears to be basically the same as the XBLA version, and also includes Ad-Hoc multiplayer which the XBLA version has an online version of. It's not a mini (thanks to Japan not having a PSP minis lineup at all) but will be coming to download and retail in Japan, and we should expect it to hit around the same time in the States.

Alongside QIX++ is the new A Kingdom For Keflings DLC for those who want to dive back into that.

XBLA: Konami To Release Expensive Retail XBLA Compilations

konamiclassics.jpg

Amazon has revealed that Konami are bringing two compilations of Xbox Live Arcade games to the retail space, but don't expect a bargain.

Konami Classics Volume 1 will feature Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, Frogger and Super Contra, while Volume 2 will feature Contra, Rush'n Attack and Track & Field.

Each collection will cost $19.99 in the US - which means the first volume costs the same as it would to buy them all on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but it also means the second volume costs $5 more than the marketplace.

That's pretty crazy since they could so very easily throw in Time Pilot or something to make the difference, and is a horrible deal compared to Namco's Virtal Museum Arcade collection. You can't win 'em all, I guess.

XBLA: Trailer: Trials HD - The Big Pack (RedLynx)

It's big, apparently. And it's coming soon! Get ready to waste weeks of your life once again.

PSN, PSN Minis: Minis Playable On PS3 In 3.15 FW Update

The PSP minis program has been a bit of a flawed one, particularly since Japan has decided to not participate in it at all, but the West isn't giving up on it - now allowing the minis program to be playable on the PlayStation 3.

The 3.15 Firmware update enables the bite-sized minis to play on both the PSP and the PS3 - if you own both you only need to play it once. This won't happen automatically however - Sony will be pushing out the games that can be played on PS3 over the next few weeks - if you own a PSP mini game already, you'll just need to re-download to your PS3 once it's confirmed to work.

This'll be a bit of a strange change - will the games even look good on a HDTV? Plus PSP games don't have Trophy support, so I imagine minis won't either? Hopefully we'll hear more in the next week while all this starts to come together.

XBLA: Xbox Live Indies - Johnny Platform Saves Christmas! (Ishisoft)

johnnyplatchristmas.jpg

Ishisoft's Johnny Platform sequel had hit the Xbox Live Indie Games platform today, bring with it 100 new platforming levels, new gameplay mechanics like rolling, and now uses the entire screen for pure platforming fun.

The game is 240MSP, or $3. You can download the demo via the Xbox Live marketplace here. I'm enjoying it so far, I think I'm stuck on Level 18 though.

XBLA: XBLA Update - QIX++ And A Kingdom For Keflings DLC

kingdomofqix.jpg

We may not know much about QIX++, but hey - it's out. You can download the trial here.

Checking out the trial of the game, it certainly is QIX, but now you have the ability to upgrade your ship and have numerous enemies and levels to go through. It looks like it's set up in a similar fashion to Arkanoid Live - different "sets" of levels which you must try to get through for a larger score. Seems good so far, whether it's worth 800MSP is up in the air though.

Also this week are two pieces of A Kingdom For Keflings DLC featuring new Kingdoms to upkeep. You can download both of them here for 160MSP each.

XBLA: Unannounced Ninja Bee Game Features Dynamic Split-Screen Mode

With todays release of downloadable content for A Kingdom For Keflings, developer NInja Bee also released this trailer showing off the new features of the maps. At the end of the trailer there's a little surprise - a early, early look at one of their upcoming titles.

The footage shows two Avatars walking around on the screen, similar to A Kingdom for Keflings, but also features a new split-screen mode. Much like the Genesis game Toe Jam & Earl, this game will allow you walk around with two people on the same system, but also allow you to go exploring on your own.

I would also assume this is not Ancients of Ooga, their other announced game. It's nice to see NinjaBee are working on numerous titles after keeping quiet for the past year.

XBLA: Xbox Live Indies - Shoot 1UP Trailer (Nathan Fouts)

While Nathan Fouts is hard at work on Grapple Buggy, he's also announced a second title currently in the works for Xbox LIve Indie Games - Shoot 1UP.

Shoot 1UP is a top-down scrolling shooter, but with a twist - each life obtained is automatically added to your arsenal. Have 10 lives? You'll have 10 ships on screen.shooting the hell out of everything. It's a little similar to Galaga's double-ship mechanic, but a little crazier.

You can have up to 30 ships on screen at a time and play in 2 player co-op. The game is set to be released in January, but in the mean time follow Mommy's Best Games Twitter account, which might be giving away free download codes around the release.

DSiWare: Scrabble Comes Thrice To DSiWare

scrabbulous.jpg

According to the ESRB rating board, EA are planning to expand on their Hasbro liscencing by bring Scrabble to DSiWare - in the way of three seperate DSi application.

Scrabble Classic, Scrabble Slam! and Scrabble Tools were rated by the ESRB, all being seperate versions of scrabble to play. Classic is your standard style of Scrabble word game, Slam is a card game equivelant of Scrabble where players must try to create as many 4 letter words as possible. Scrabble Tools is a Scrabble dictionary which helps you determine the best words with certain tiles, and will also include several mini games to expand your vocabulary.

All three pieces sound suspiciously like pieces of the retail Scrabble game EA released earlier this year, so it likely is. Don't expect online multiplayer, and don't expect it to get a release outside of America - Scrabble has separate owners in the US and the rest of the world.

Expect it to pop up suddenly, like every other DSiWare release.

PSN, WiiWare, XBLA: Mega Man 10 Announced In Next Nintendo Power

megaman10.jpg

In the upcoming 250th issue of Nintendo Power, Capcom have revealed that Mega Man 10 will be coming to WiiWare, and will feature Sheep Man.

Mega Man 9 was a big success for Capcom, and they continue the tradition two years later - Mega Man 10 will be every bit as 8-Bit as 9 was, featuring 8 new robot masters to destroy on your way to defeat Dr. Wily. It will also include Lava, disappearing blocks and more.

In addition to that, Proto Man will be playable from the very beginning, previously being downloadable content for Mega Man 9. There will also be a third playable character too, which they're keeping secret for now.

While it's currently only announced for WiiWare, it is a Nintendo Magazine after all, we should be able to expect it to also come to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network as well.

Expect it to drop in 2010, but in the meantime check out the first page of the Nintendo Power feature here.

PSN: Blue Toad Murder Files Hits Europe Next Week

Relentless Software have announced that their episodic murder mystery game Blue Toad Murder Files will begin next week in Europe, and at a later date for America.

I've had a difficult time trying to figure out what the game really is over the past few months, but apparently it's a 6 episode series featuring "whodunnit" and cross-examination puzzles, and some sort of cooperative gameplay modes.

It looks alright, but I'd like to see more gameplay before I give it a go.

PSN, PSN Minis: EU PSN Store Update - PixelJunk Shooter, Call Of Duty Classic, Let’s Golf! And More

shootereu.jpg

PixelJunk Shooter has finally hit the PlayStation Store. Apparently it's quite good. You should probably pick it up. Also this week came Call Of Duty Classic, which was a part of last week's update in the US.

But what is puzzling is two other, completely unannounced games suddenly popping up on the store - Buzz! Junior: Dino Den, par for the course since all other Buzz! Junior titles on PSN, but also some game called Hyperballoid HD. Apparently they threw up a trailer last month, but only about 30 people viewed it until today. No press release, no nothing. Good luck selling your game, but it would be nice to know about it beforehand.

On the side of PSP minis Dynogems, an Astropop style game, Heracles Chariot Racing which is also available on WiiWare, Gameloft's Let’s Golf!, Telegraph Crosswords and Beam ‘Em Up. Some pretty decent games in there, so go check them out on the store.

DSiWare, WiiWare: EU Nintendo Update - Rubik's Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH, Monkey Island Chapter 4, Pallurikio, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World And More

alexkiddshinobi.jpg

A good WiiWare week and a fairly lackluster DSiWare week for Europeans today - still, not bad for the usually dull December.

Wii owners can pick up Rubik's Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH, a new puzzle game from Two Tribes - the makers of Toki Tori for only 600 Points. Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 4 is also finally available to Europe for 1000 Points.

An extra release this week is Pallurikio, a strange action platformer where you bounce and roll your ball-like character through 50 levels. Thing is, this game looks kind of fun. What's up with not telling anyone about the game before it comes out?

For DSiWare you've got yourself two releases: Picturebook Games: The Royal Bluff, which seems alright, and Hell’s Kitchen Vs. - a 2 player version of the popular UK TV Show for 800 Points. If Gordon Ramsay isn't swearing at you every second sentence, what's the point of a Hell's Kitchen game?

Finally, Virtual Console picks up Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.. Not many people would have ever played the game, but being sort of an Alex Kidd fan I'd have to say Shinobi World is perhaps the best of the Kidd games - due to the fact that it doesn't play anything like the other ones. At the very least it's a far better game than the original Shinobi ever was. That's 500 Points.

PSN, PSN Minis: NA PlayStation Store Update - PixelJunk Shooter, Revenge of the Wounded Dragons, Frogger Returns And More

usshooter.jpg

Oh hey, that PixelJunk Shooter game is out. You might want to check it out.

Alongside Q-Games' latest title, A2M have released Revenge of the Wounded Dragons for $9.99, and Konami have released Frogger Returns for $4.99.

Alongside that is a ton of downloadable content for - you guessed it - PAIN and High Velocity Bowling. Makes you wonder if they'll ever run out of stuff to sell for these games.

Starting this week the PSP minis have now become Minis - now playable on your PS3, well... sort of. Some games are working and some aren't, so you might want to check the list. Starting next week everything should be working though. In the meantime there are two new minis - Stand O’Food and Battle Poker.
