XBLA: This Week On XBLA - Madden NFL Arcade, Cheap DeathTank

maddennflarcade.jpg

While we may not be around at the moment, we've got a pretty good idea on what'll be available this week on the Xbox Live Arcade. Sorry if we're wrong! [EDITOR'S NOTE: Hope you're having fun on hols, Ryan - we haven't seen anything different from this confirmed so far.]

This week will bring Madden NFL Arcade, the 5-on-5 wacky football variant for 1200 Microsoft Points. There's a chance that there will be more as well, but as of writing we just don't know.

Also on hand are a few deals of the week - at least, according to the Japanese Xbox webpage. Death Tank will now have a 33% price drop to 800MSP, and Peggle will get a price drop to 400MSP - Gold Members only.

If they are the deal of the week I recommend grabbing both. Click here to add Death Tank to your queue, and here for Peggle

PSN, XBLA: After Burner Climax Coming To PSN?

afterburnclimax.jpg

According to game rating boards worldwide, Sega's air battle game may be coming to the PlayStation Network.

After Burner Climax has recently appeared on the Australian Classification Operating Branch website, but like many games it shows up as Multiplatform. The Korean Game Rating Board however goes a little deeper, and reveals that the rating was applied for by the local Sony Computer Entertainment branch.

The game has been in Arcades for some time but there had been no talk of a home release for it. The game was developed on the Sega Lindbergh board. There might be a chance that this will also come to the Xbox LIve Arcade, but as we've seen from Outrun Online Arcade and Virtual On: OT, Sega isn't above going for a strictly multi-platform route when it comes to digital titles.

After Burner Climax is a perfect fit for a downloadable game - though it feel like it's missing something without the giant cabinet attached to it. Hopefully we'll hear more soon.

WiiWare: Phoenix Wright Coming To WiiWare

Yes yes, we're a bit late on this one (despite being early) but now it's official - Phoenix Wright 1, 2 and 3 are coming to WiiWare early next year.

The games are direct ports of the DS games - no graphical updates whatsoever, but you will be able to waggle the Wii remote to make Phoenix to yell "Objection!" at the witnesses.

The first game will be available in January, the second in March and the third in May each for 1,000 points. The additional episode from the original game will be sold as DLC for 100 points.

I do wish they had done a little more with making the game look better on a TV screen - but for only $10 you should be complaining too much.

XBLA: Xbox Live Indies - Platypus Now Available

Escapist Games (AtomHex) announced the release of claymation shoot'em-up Platypus to Xbox Live Indie Games. Some of you might recognize this from its original edition for PC by Cletus Clay developer Anthony Flack (later ported to iPhone and PSP, with our impressions on the latter here).

The XLIG release retains the horizontal-scrolling shooter's plasticine graphics but also adds "enhanced high-definition widescreen graphics, improved audio", and full localizations for French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Like Platypus PSP, this release has multiplayer support and was actually "built from the ground up as a co-op game".

I remember that Flack had serious complaints with the PSP version (e.g. janky bonus scoring, his name missing from the credits), primarily due to that porting team, MumboJumbo LA, having only six weeks to complete the adaptation with four people. It sounds like Escapist Games took those issues into consideration and had more time to work on this release.

PSN, XBLA: Final Fight Returns To XBLA, PSN

finalfight.png

Capcom via IGN, have today announced two of their classic beat-em-up titles, Final Fight and Magic Sword, will be coming to the XBLA and PSN in a double pack next year.

While Capcom have tried the paths of creating sequels to classic franchises or enhancing old titles with new graphics, they've yet to just straight-up bring old games to either platform - regulating that to the Wii Virtual Console.

These versions will include online co-op play for both games and feature several different visual modes, including a crisp sprites mode and one that looks like you're playing it on an interlaced monitor.

It seems a little odd to throw the lesser known Magic Sword in with Final Fight - it's certainly not aged as well. Final Fight 2 & 3 were only released for the Super Nintendo so I imagine there might be some licensing issues that doesn't allow them to come alongside the original. Even so, I'd far prefer Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons if we're sticking to CPS titles, but I guess with a license we don't have much choice in that matter.

Expect the package to come out around April next year, which just happens to be around the XBLA's Days Of Arcade promotion earlier this year. Interesting!

DSiWare, WiiWare: Q-Games To Reflect Missile On Nintendo Platform

reflectmissile.png

The developers of the PixelJunk series appears to be working on a second title for Nintendo, according to the Aussie Classification Operating Branch.

The rating for a game called Reflect Missile has appeared on the COB website, and is being developed by Q-Games and published by Nintendo. The two recently worked together on Art Style: Digidrive / Intersect for DSiWare, but just the name Reflect Missile doesn't sound like something that would be a part of the Art Style selection.

This rating doesn't suggest a specific system, but as Nintendo's involved it'll either be for WiiWare or DSiWare - likely the latter. As Nintendo is publishing the game we probably won't hear anything about it until after it's released - unlike Q-Games themselves who, you know, inform people.

I hear Art Style: Intersect was awesome, and their PlayStation Network output has been phenomenal too, so I've got high hopes for this one.

PSN, XBLA: Puzzle Quest Gets Direct Sequel

157154-1-hd.jpg

The guys over at Infinite Interactive have been pushing out a lot of puzzle games over the last year - Galactrix, Puzzle Kingdoms, Puzzle Adventure and (still in development) Puzzle Chronicles, but they're going right back to their roots with Puzzle Quest 2, the direct sequel to their original blockbuster.

Gamepro have the official reveal of the game in their upcoming issue of their magazine, but they were kind enough to release this single screenshot from the Xbox Live Arcade version - the rest you'll have to find in the magazine.

We can however see some fairly large changes from the original game just in this image. It appears that the color purple is now one of the gems, rather than being a boost to your experience, and you're matching up metal gloves alongside the gems, possibly what is taking over the purple "star" experience. No gold collection either, it seems.

Also the character in the picture, Ulf, is a lot more tribal looking in nature than any of the original Puzzle Quest characters. Perhaps he's one of the Barbarians from the Warlords: Battlecry series? Still killing those Goblins though, so not a lot has changed.

Either way, after playing a little bit of Gyromancer and loving it, I would really love to see what Infinite Interactive will do with a new Puzzle Quest after the soft response of the Galactrix game.
