PSN Minis: Uncharted, PAIN And More Get Pinball-ized on PSP

pinballheroes.jpg

While Zen Studios may be the Pinball aficionados on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it appears Sony themselves are taking action on the PSP with Pinball Heroes.

The ESRB has leaked news of this new Pinball game, but unlike Zen Pinball and Pinball FX this series will be entirely dependent on Sony's own intellectual property, and each table will be released separately. The ESRB claims that Uncharted, PAIN, High Velocity Bowling and Hot Shots Golf will each get its own table.

The ratings also describes some of the gimmicks of the tables - the Uncharted board will has a crashed airplane and have gold coins for bumpers, while the Hot Shots Golf board will be set up like a miniature putting green, and will include a water hazard to avoid and fairway targets to hit.

Outside of the rating board reveal, we don't know anything else about the series - for all we know Zen Studios are developing these too, but we'll likely hear something about it in a couple of weeks.

DSiWare: The Eighth DSiWare Sudoku Game rated by the ESRB

crazysudoku.png

It's only been seven months since the Nintendo DSi was released in North America, but that hasn't stopped at least eight Sudoku games to be revealed for the system.

Crazy Sudoku by German publisher DTP Entertainment popped up on the ESRB today, which now joins the already released Brain Age Express: Sudoku from Nintendo, Sudoku by EA, the double hit of Sudoku 50! For Beginners and Sudoku 150! For Challengers, as well as the announced Simply Sudoku by Engine Software, Sudoku 4Pockets by Limelight Software and Sudoku Sensei by Hudson.

I realize Sudoku has been a thing for several years now, but in a world where shelf space doesn't dissappear, is there a need for eight Sudoku games? Geez. Just how crazy can Sudoku get, honestly?

DSiWare, WiiWare: NA Nintendo Update - Excitebike World Rally, Frogger Returns, Bomberman Blitz, A Boatload Of Electroplankton And More

wiiexcitebikeupdate.jpg

Today's update headlines with Excitebike: World Rally for WiiWare, a new take on the classic racing game with online play, all for 1,000 Nintendo Points.

Other releases include Konami's Frogger Returns which, hey, looks like Frogger for 500 Nintendo Points. The final WiiWare release is Dragon Master Spell Caster by New Zealand developer Stickmen Studios for 500 Nintendo Points.

DSi owners have a lot to wade through this week - Bomberman Blitz is now out in the US for 500 Nintendo Points, but you can also choose from 5 piecemeal variants of Electroplankton for 200 Points each. We've linked to videos of each, so have a quick look before you dive into your purchase.

Finally we've got two new Virtual Console releases - Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap for the Master System and Cybernoid for the Commodore 64. Unless they decide to bring the Japanese only Monster World IV over to the Virtual Console, we've officially run out of Wonder Boy games now.

XBLA: This Week On XBLA - Encleverment Experiment, 0D Beat Drop, NBA Unrivaled

this%20week%20xbla.jpg

This week you'll be able to get two kinds of puzzle games this week on the Xbox Live Arcade - Encleverment Experiment, the multiplayer brain bender by Blitz Arcade Studios, and 0D Beat Drop, a new musical block-drop puzzle game developed by Arc System Works.

Both will hit this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points, or $10USD. You can read more on Encleverment experiment at the official website, or more on 0D Beat Drop at Xbox.com.

[Edit: Tecmo have revealed NBA Unrivaled will also be available this week for 1200MSP.]

XBLA: Golgoth Studios To Give Joe & Mac A Crack

model%20sheet%20characters.jpg

While they may be hard at work on a Toki remake right now, Golgoth Studios have already revealed their plans for their next project, and it involves Caveman Ninja.

After Toki is completed they'll start work on another Data East classic - Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, and while still in the very early stages they've released this one piece of artwork based on the two heroes.

While Joe & Mac was a decent game, it hasn't aged all that well. The premise is still great though, so I hope Golgoth take the opportunity to add some of their own creativity into their next game.

XBLA: In-Depth: Xbox Live Arcade Sales Analysis, October 2009

xblatop10oct09.png[GamerBytes editor Ryan Langley examines October 2009's Xbox Live Arcade debuts and continuing successes, with charts and leaderboard data -- to find out what digital XBLA titles are doing well at this year's end.]

October has been a month of highs and lows - veteran games that have done remarkably well, and continue to sell impressively, significantly after their release, contrasted with some new games that dropped off almost instantly.

Last month, we began to look at estimating sales of Xbox Live Arcade games in the month, using a combination of Leaderboard numbers, charts, and our knowledge. It's tricky, potentially subjective territory. But we're trying to be as open as possible with the data, and we continue to list Leaderboard specifics alongside our estimates, so you're welcome to draw your own conclusions.

This month we've gone rather comprehensive, looking at over 90 Xbox Live Arcade titles, week by week, to show how a game sells throughout the month. We looked at Leaderboards for the newest releases, as well as some games from the past. For a developer, this data is crucial to see the true state of the so-called "long tail" effect for digitally distributed games.

Eight new Xbox Live Arcade titles were released within the four weeks of October 2009, including Ludicity, South Park, and Axel & Pixel. Here's how they fared.

PSN: Magic: The Gathering Coming To PSN, New XBLA DLC In 2010

magicpsn.pngThe Wizards of the Coast have reveals that Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers will be coming to the PlayStation Network in the Fall of 2010 - and the XBLA version will receive new downloadable content too.

In both the Spring and Summer of 2010 the Xbox Live Arcade will receive two pieces of Magic DLC, and will feature new cards, puzzles, Planeswalkers and some surprised to go along with them. The PlayStation Network version will be basically the same as the Xbox Live Arcade version.

PSN, PSN Minis: This Week On PSN - Braid And... Vagrant Story?

braidpsn.jpg

This week those lucky enough to be in North America will be able to pick up Braid this week on the PlayStation Network. The critically acclaimed Xbox Live Arcade game has been ported over by Hothead Games, and will cost $14.99USD.

For Europe it's currently unknown - they might be making up for their lackluster update last week, but based on some snooping from PSNStores the classic Vagrant Story PSOne title might be popping up this week. Cross your fingers.

DSiWare, PSN, PSN Minis, WiiWare, XBLA: GDC 2010 Reminds On Summit Submissions, IGF Student, Mobile Deadline

[Just a quick reminder from our GDC colleagues about the call for submissions for the 2010 Summits, including indie, social/online, iPhone Summits - with a bonus Independent Games Festival heads-up in there also for students/mobile developers.]

Game Developers Conference 2010 organizers are reminding potential Summit speakers that they have until Friday, Nov. 13th to submit lectures, with IGF Student and Mobile deadlines also impending.

Held on the first two days of GDC 2010 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco -- next March 9th and 10th -- this year’s GDC Summit line-up includes two new events in the form of the Social & Online Games Summit and iPhone Games Summit.

These summits, alongside the GDC Mobile/Handheld, Independent Games, and Serious Games Summits, which are all accepting submissions through the end of Friday, November 13th.

(Other summits also held at GDC 2010 but not currently calling for submissions include one or two-day events on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the IGDA Education Summit, although the Game Localization Summit has an informal call for lectures ending on November 15th.)

In addition, Independent Games Festival 2010 organizers are reminding that, following record IGF Main Competition entries, games are due for submission in the free to enter Student Showcase category by Sunday November 15th, 2009. Separately of this, entries to the IGF Mobile competition -- encompassing iPhone, mobile phone, PSP, DS, Android and other handheld games -- are due by Tuesday, December 1st, 2009.

More information and registration specifics on the 2010 Game Developers Conference can be found at the official GDC 2010 website.

DSiWare, PSN, PSN Minis, WiiWare, XBLA: 2BeeGames Reveal Finalists Of Second Indie Game Competition

2BeeGames have revealed the 10 finalists of their second Indie Game Competition, and since two of the finalists from the previous competition are on their way to XBLA and PSN titles we thought we'd take a look at the offering this time.

The finalists are:

Bullets of a Revolver – submitted by Diefox
Climb to the Top of the Castle – submitted by TwO Bros. Games
Cavemen Vs. Aliens – submitted by John Sear
Cochon’s Pursuit – submitted by Edouard Mercure
Daytraders of the Dead – submitted by Mat Groves / John Denton
DriftMoon – submitted by Ville Mönkkönen
Kablooey! – submitted by Vertigo Games
Tower of Heaven – submitted by Askiisoft
Turba – submitted by Binary Takeover
Vector Conflict: The Siege – submitted by Dig Your Own Grave Games

The 2BeeGames website has demos and videos of all the finalists, so I suggest you go and take a look at each. Of the lot I'm most interested in Climb to the Top of the Castle, seen in the embedded video, and Tower Of Heaven, a platformer set in the style of a monochrome GameBoy game.

XBLA: XBLA Update - 0D Beat Drop, Encleverment Experiment, NBA Unrivaled, Bust-A-Move DLC

odenclnba.jpg

This weeks XBLA update is now live - you can grab 0D Beat Drop for 800 Microsoft Points, Encleverment Experiment for another 800 Microsoft Points, and NBA Unrivaled for 1200 Microsoft Points.

Having a quick look at the demos 0D Beat Drop seems like a decent Puyo Pop style puzzler but with the ability to choose when your score chain starts destroying blocks. Encleverment Experiment seems like a decent multiplayer brain puzzler, and NBA Unrivaled... man, what happened?

[Edit: Also two new puzzle packs for Bust-A-Move / Puzzle Bobble Live have popped up unexpectantly, you can grab each for 240MSP.]

Further more if you happened to grab the Special Edition of Modern Warfare 2 you can also grab Call Of Duty Classic for free right now while the rest of us wait.

You can download each of the demos by clicking the links below. Let et us know what you think of these games in the comments - be heard!

PSN, XBLA: New Greed Corp Trailer, Now Also Coming To Xbox Live Arcade,

W! Games have now revealed that Greed Corp is not just coming to the PlayStation Network, but will also be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade.

To celebrate the announcement W! Games have also released this new trailer. It's still looking great, but I'm a little confused as to how the game plays out. Hopefully we'll see a preview or two pop up before its release.

DSiWare: Gameloft Developin Original IP On DSiWare?

gameloftip.png

According to the German USK rating system Gameloft are currently developing Legends of Exidia for DSiWare, but what is it?

There is currently no information regarding the game on other consoles be it mobile phone or iPhone, could this possibly be a strictly DSiWare release by Gameloft? They're usually not the sort to do a one-console release, but it does happen on occasion - Battle Tanks on PSN comes to mind.

Gameloft have been notorious for creating "knock-off" games that have the look and feel of other properties - Hero Of Sparta and God Of War for example. Legends of Exidia though? Could it be a Legend of Zelda knockoff? Now that'd be something.

WiiWare: Phalanx Gets WiiWare Port, Banjo Not Included

phalanx.jpg

Any excuse to use that packshot.

The Japanese Game Watch website has revealed that the classic SNES shooter will be returning to the Wii - but as a WiiWare title.

Zoom Inc, who were the developers of the original Sharp X68000 version of the game, will also be developing this version. It will be entirely based on the X68000 version and not the SNES version, and will also include a few minor tweaks to the original design.

The game will retail for 500 Nintendo Points when it's released in Japan this Winter, no word of a worldwide release just yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it does pop up sooner or later.

PSN, PSN Minis: EU PSN Store Update - Bubble Trubble, D-Cube Planet, DLC For Rag Doll, PAIN And More

DSiWare, WiiWare, WiiWare: EU Nintendo Update - My Zoo, Rock & Roll Climber, Ninja Gaiden Arcade, A Little Bit Of Golf

ninjagaidennintnedoupdate.jpg

Fairly dull week on the EU Nintendo Store, Hudson has released My Zoo, the sequel to My Aquarium which sold like hot cakes on WiiWare. You can grab that for 500 Points, or maybe you'll give Rock & Roll Climber a shot - the Rock Climbing "simulator" released in the US about 3 months ago.

On the Virtual Arcade front is Ninja Gaiden - if you have fond memories of the NES version, you might be in for a bit of a shock - the Arcade version is wildly different - a sidescrolling beat-em-up rather than the platformer it was turned into. You can pick that up for 800 Points.

Finally those with a DSi can grab A Little Bit Of... Nintendo Touch Golf, a cut up version of the original retail golf game. Since this doesn't have a subtitle I assume this might be the only piece of Nintendo Touch Golf the DSi will receive.

PSN, PSN Minis: NA PSN Store Update - Braid, Star Trek D-A-C, Pinball Heroes

psnbraid.jpg

Those PS3 owners living in North America can now finally play Braid, one of the top Xbox Live Arcade titles. It's now available on the store for $14.99.

Another Xbox Live Arcade title has finally made its way over with Star Trek D-A-C, which can be picked up for $9.99. DLC also ramps up with new playable characters in PAIN and Rag Doll Kung Fu.

Finally the PSP minis program gets Creat Studios' Bubble Trubble, and alongside that a new series of PSN exclusives call Pinball Heroes, which we spoke about earlier this week, with 4 separate pinball boards based on PAIN, Uncharted, High Velocity Bowling and Hot Shots Golf.

PSN, XBLA: What To Expect From Call Of Duty Classic

Those of you with Modern Warfare 2's Hardened Edition are also in possession of an early copy of Call of Duty Classic. For those of us waiting, just how well does it hold up?

Jeff and Ryan over at Giant Bomb had a quick look at the game a few days ago, going through the training procedures and checking out the first mission or two. It's fascinating to see how far we've come now - no run button, grenades are selectable and not on a separate button, it's Call Of Duty, but it might not be what you expect.

No official date has been given right now for its release on the Xbox Marketplace and PSN Store, but it might be a while. In the mean time, play yourself some Modern Warfare 2 like the rest of the world is.

PSN Minis: A Look At Pinball Heroes On PSP

No sooner did we discuss the existence of the Pinball Heroes when all of a sudden they're released on the PlayStation Store. So what can you expect?

Each table has its own gimmick - the Uncharted table tells the story of the first Uncharted title, Hot Shots Golf you'll have several "holes" to play through, and PAIN has several bonus events based on the modes of the original game. Each game has a set of in-game Trophies to collect, and while not official PSN Trophies they'll give you something to brag about.

Surprisingly these games are not part of the PSP minis program despite being priced at $3.99 a pop. It appears the internal SCEA developers wanted to add online leaderboards, which you cannot have as a PSP minis title, so they're "PSN Exclusives" instead. Makes you wonder what the point of this PSP minis program if even SCEA won't support it.

The 4 initial boards are available on the American PSN Store and will hopefully make their way to Europe soon. Going by the video there is at least one more table on the way - Wipeout HD. Now that's the one I want to see.

DSiWare: Crazy Golf On DSiWare Not That Crazy

crazygolf.png

Crazy Golf has been popping up on game rating boards across the world, but what is it exactly?

Through some digging we've found it's being published by German publisher DTP Entertainment, and is being developed by Cranberry Productions. They both just happened to have released a retail DS game called Crazy School Games with Crazy Golf being a part of the Craziness.

It's basically a top-down mini-golf game, but set on school tables like the old Micro Machines games from the 90's.You'll have to deal with pencils, paper clips, magnets, that sort of thing. Unlike the retail game this one appears to go a step further with more courses, including a Sci-Fi course.

Much like a lot of these strange European DSiWare games it's unlikely we'll hear anything, so we're giving you a heads up here in case it pops up in a week or two.

WiiWare: Monsteca Corral Announced For WiiWare

monsteca.jpg

Liverpool Indie Game studio Onteca has revealed their first title, Monsteca Corral, will be coming to WiiWare.

Monsteca Corral has you herd a group of alien special called Sdompes around the level while avoiding Robot-created traps. The developers suggest it will feature the ambient feel of games like Flower or Pikmin, though going by the screenshots they might be giving themselves too much credit. It reminds me more of Darwinia more than anything.

The game plans to be out by early 2010. Lets see if they can live up to their claims.
