PSN, XBLA: The Rocket Knight's Adventures Continue On XBLA, PSN

rocketknightreturns.jpg

One of Konami's most well remembers series from the 16-Bit Days is back, and courtesy of 1UP's Retronauts collective we'll be seeing a whole week worth of content.

Rocket Knight is a new title in the Rocket Knight Adventures / Sparkster series, finally getting a sequel after 15 years of silence. It is being developed by Climax Studios, who have been hard at work on various Silent Hill properties over the years. Now they're getting a crack at the armored rodent.

Full preview and screenshots can be viewed here. Currently it looks alright, I'm a little worried by the art direction but I won't make any conclusions until I see the game in action, which we'll see this Friday. 1UP's Jeremy Parish seems positive in his preview, which calms the nerves a little.

Across the week 1UP will also be blasting through the original games, having a look at the Rocket Knight's new design and have a new podcast with the producers of the project. Keep an eye out for it over the coming days.

Wow, those screenshots look terrible. Just ... awful. Modern graphics applied to retro games, there's just something going wrong somewhere. Is there a pixel artist in the house? Good grief.

Wow,

there have been really good remakes, sequels or re-inventions of classic ips this gen that were really good like, Bionic Commando rearmed, Prince of Persia Classic, Pac-Man CE, Klonoa, Contra & Gradius Rebirth, Galaga Legions , Xevious Ressurection & Space Invaders Extreme .

And then there Remakes that weren´t probably as memorable as the Originals, but were still pretty goood like the remakes by Taito of Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble, Adventure Island, Alien Crush, Nectaris, etc.

Lastly there those Remakes done by developers who apparently didn´t grasp what made the Originals as good as they were. I´m talking here about Wolf of the Battlefield Commando 3 and 1942 Joint Strike and Turtles in Time RS.

They weren´t exactly bad games, I even found them pretty entertaining, but they lacked completely the charm and soul of the Originals.

Commando 3 felt really low budget with only one recycled Boss, technical issues.

1942 is not even a good shoot´em up compared the the rest of the series. The aspect ratio felt off and sometimes it was even hard to notice if you´re getting hit or not.

The Screenshots of the new Rocket Knight so far look really bad.

I would have more confidence in this Game if it was made buy the Gradius or Contra "Rebirth"-Team.

i'm going to chime in here and say, i like the graphics.
