WiiWare: Airport Mania Flies To WiiWare

airportmania.jpg

In the latest collection of ESRB updates, it has been revealed that Reflexive Entertainment's Airport Mania: First Flight will be making its way to WiiWare.

Airport mania is a traffic manager game similar to that of Diner Dash. You must point and click to tell incoming planes where to go on the air strip, which port to let off your passengers, and when the plane can take off again. You need to keep everything in order so you don't have any delays and keep the flow going.

The game was originally released on the PC but became very popular on the iPhone. Reflexive have previously released Big Kahuna Party on WiiWare, Expect the game to come out fairly soon.

"Experience a unique combination of strategy and skill as you maintain a level playing field in the physics-based action puzzler You, Me, and the Cubes. The action centers around Fallos, mysterious creatures that resemble humans and have an ability to balance on a playing field of 3-D cubes. First, create a pair of Fallos inside your Wii Remote controller by shaking it up and down. Next, determine suitable places for the Fallos to land, then fling them to the selected cube with a swinging motion. After that, the Fallos are on their own. If your placement is sound, the Fallos will remain stable and you'll clear the stage after tossing a required number onto the cubes. But if the weight or locations of Fallos causes the cubes to tilt and sway too much, the Fallos will lose their balance and fall off. Adding to the challenge, you'll find that some cubes have different properties, making tosses tricky and further threatening the stability of the Fallos. Guide Fallos through dozens of single-player stages or invite family and friends to join you in two-player cooperative mode."

DSiWare: PopCap To Release BookWorm, Bejeweled Blitz To DSiWare

BOOKBEJ.jpg

Earlier this year PopCap detailed plans to bring their classic Bookworm and Bejeweled titles to the Nintendo DS. Now it has been revealed that they will also be releasing pocket-sized DSiWare versions alongside them.

The DSiWare version of Bookworm will include the complete Classic mode, very much like the iPhone version of Bookworm, while the retail version will include additional multiplayer modes, collectable books and numerous additional features.

Bejeweled Twist on the other hand will include the classic and multiplayer modes, while the retail release will include addition Zen, Blitz and Challenge modes. This will also be the first time Bejeweled Twist has been ported over to a console - but don't be surprised if it pops up on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network at a later date.

While we would usually be against the numerous Express styled games we've been seeing on DSiWare, both these games make perfect sense for quick and easy pickup gaming on your DS.

Bookworm is set to be released later this month, while Bejeweled Twist will hit DSiWare in the middle of October.

PSN: Leaked Document Reveals Dreamcast, PS2 Games To PSN?

dreamcast.jpg

Oh Sega, I thought you would have learned your lesson from the last time this happened.

An internal document that discusses a meeting between SCEA and Sega back in August, have been leaked onto Sega's FTP server. It details several upcoming Sega titles, but also discusses the possibility of PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast titles coming to the PlayStation Network.

Sega seems quite keen on bringing more Dreamcast titles to the digital realm. The document reveals that Sega are looking at the PlayStation 3 to bring Dreamcast titles to the PlayStation Network. It also cites that if they made games exclusive on the platform their games would get more marketing support on the PlayStation Store.

While we've seen some games make a trip from Dreamcast onto digital platforms (Soul Calibur, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Virtual On) there are plenty more that could make their way over. Sony have not been very interested in Sega's previous digital titles at all, only releasing GunStar Heroes and, in Europe only, Outrun Online Arcade, so this sounds a little bizarre in contrast.

The big reveal however is that SCEA are interested in selling all PS2 titles through the PlayStation Network - Grand Theft Autos, Sonic games, everything. It's seems odd that they're going this route since they plan to release the God Of War collection on disc later this year.

I'd wager that the PlayStation Network would do Dreamcast and PS2 games much like PSOne Classics and TurboGrafx Classics - with no additional features. Unlike the Xbox Live Arcade, which requires Leaderboards and Achievements, the PlayStation 3 has a much simpler system already in place for older games.

Finally, the document claims that Sony may be interested in creating a imports section to the PlayStation Store, and uses Yakuza 3 as an example. While it seems like Yakuza 3 is an odd option, as it is a full PlayStation 3 title, it could be the best way for Yakuza to live on despite poor sales in the US, as well as get around SCEA rules of requiring English voice overs in its retail games. It could also work for bringing Japanese only PSOne titles to the US, similarly to how Nintendo has the Hanbai festival for Virtual Console titles.

It's all very exciting. What would you like to see make its return to the PlayStation Network? Crazy Taxi and Shadow of the Colossus for me.

XBLA: Because There Wasn't Enough Already This Week - 3 XBLA Titles Join Arcade Hits

streetfightingminigolf.png

Don't already have enough to check out this week? Well Microsoft have thrown even more into your lap - 3D Ultra Minigolf, Brain Challenge, and Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting are getting their prices permanently cut to 400MSP starting Wednesday.

Brain Challenge was released back in March of '08, and has already seen itself part of the Deals Of The Week program once. The game just got a sequel a few days ago on the iPhone, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see that on Xbox Live Arcade later down the line.

Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting already has its big brother on Xbox Live Arcade with HD Remix, but I guess with its release this game's sales have gone to a crawl. Will the price drop to $5 be a big enough push to bring it back in the Top 10 or has every single Street Fighter fan already grabbed one or the other?

3D Ultra Mini Golf was the first Golf game on XBLA, and one of Sierra's earliest digital titles. It's great to see that whoever is controlling the Sierra estate still seems to have an interest in the XBLA. There's a sequel still on the way too, but its been a while since we've heard anything about it.

3 new XBLA games, 3 new Arcade hits, and one Deal of the Week with new DLC? Chockers - but not very beneficial to those new releases. Next week's Top 10 is going to be very bizarre.

WiiWare: Zombies Ate My Neighbors Coming To Virtual Console

zombiesate.jpg

Zombies Ate My Neighbors has been rated by the Australian Office of Film and Classification for a Virtual Console release.

Not much else to say about this, but Zombies has been one of the most requested games I've seen for a re-release of some sort, and now it looks like Konami and LucasArts have dealt with any problems regarding the game's publisher / developer agreement.

Who said the Virtual Console had slowed down?

Source: OFLC - Zombies Ate My Neighbours.

XBLA: TGS '09 - Snoopy Flies To Xbox Live Arcade

At the Tokyo Game Show Microsoft have revealed that Snoopy Flying Ace will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, courtesy of Smart Bomb Interactive.

The game is, for the most part, an aerial dog fighting game where you and 15 other players can fight each other online. The game will support 9 different modes including airborne Rugby, and will also include a challenge mode that is playable by yourself or in local or online coop. You can also choose from 12 members of the original Peanut screw, or use your Xbox Live Avatar.

Snoopy Flying Ace had been spotted almost a year ago by Joystiq, but no platform had been announced. The original trailer showed on foot scenes as the Red Baron, but it looks like the game is a more streamlined experience now. The new trailer shows that you can get into a turret, so you still might be getting out of your plane on occasion.

Check out the official website here. The game is set to be released in 2010

XBLA: TGS '09 - Toy Soldiers March To XBLA

What do you get when you mix an RTS with 3rd person action? Toy Soldiers plans to find out.

Developed by Signal Studios, Toy Soldiers is set in a diorama of World War One where you pit your amy of plastic figuring against the opposing team. You must set up defenses using 50 different units - including tanks, fighting planes and flamethrowers.

The game is mostly played in an RTS setting, sitting above the playing field and telling your units where to head. A unique ability in Toy Soldiers is the chance to take control over single units on the battlefield, where you can shoot, fly or drive soldiers or vehicles in a 3rd person perspective.

The game will include 5 distinct maps and will support both online multiplayer and local split screen. Check out the trailer for the game above.

I've been enjoying Red Alert 3: Commander's Challenge over the past week, but the lack of online multiplayer options is unfortunate. Hopefully this can fill in the gap.

XBLA: TGS '09 - PopCap And Square Enix Team Up For Gyromancer

A couple of weeks ago we spoke of Gyromancer, an upcoming Xbox Live Arcade title being published by Square Enix. Now the game has been officially announced, but what surprises us is that PopCap are also involved.

Gyromancer mixes the world of Bejeweled, specifically Bejeweled Blitz, and has created a Puzzle RPG similar to Puzzle Quest. You rotate jewels within a square in order to connect 3 or more together, which allows you to cast spells against your rival.

It does look a lot like Puzzle Quest, but it has a gigantic slap of polish on top of it. It's got all the spectacle of a Final Fantasy game, but in a puzzle setting.

There is no current date set for the game, but I would expect it to come out sometime next year.

XBLA: TGS '09 - Death By Cube Starts To Make Sense

When Death By Cube was announced back in April as Project Cube, we were baffled. Now with this new trailer we're starting to understand it... well, at least a little bit.

It certainly has changed a bit since the original reveal. Now we can see the variety of levels and weaponry on hand for the player to use. You can choose multiple characters which appear to have different attributes too.

We also know who is actually behind the development of the game now - Premium Agency. They're a little development house in Japan which have previously been used as outsource work for big PS3 titles, like Metal Gear Solid 4, PSN Home and SIREN: Blood Curse. Good to see a small developer branch out with their own projects.

Death By Cube is still set for a 2009 release, so expect it to pop out in the next few months.

XBLA: TGS '09 - New 0 Day Attack On Earth Trailer

0 Day Attack On Earth looked a bit janky when we last saw it in April - the frame rate was all over the place and there was very little detail. Now 5 months later a new trailer has been released, and it's looking great.

This campaign based dual-stick shooter has you fight for earth's survival over 7 days against an array of giant alien creatures. Each level appears to have a time limit before the destruction of earth, you you have to move quickly.

The game will also feature an online cooperative mode where you have 3 other players can fight off the bad guys together, helping each other when one of you is in danger. Looks like it could be a blast.

We also now know that the game is being developed by GULTI Co Ltd, the developer behind the Xbox 360 port of Raiden Fighters Aces, and is being run by the core development team behind the original Raiden Fighters series. Good to know.

I believe the game is still set for a 2009 release, so look out for it in the coming months.

PSN: Critter Crunch Two Weeks Away, Bargain Priced

Capybara Games have revealed the release date and price for Critter Crunch on the PlayStation Network, and done so in this delightful little trailer.

Critter Crunch will be live on PSN on October the 8th, and cost you $6.99. A strange price to choose but it's become quite standardized on the iPhone marketplace nowadays. The dates for Europe and Australia will follow shortly.
