diginfinite.jpg

Japanese developer NIS are currently hard at work on a new Disgaea title for the PlayStation Network and PSP Minis, and will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show.

Siliconera spotted the Sony Japan exhibit information for the Tokyo Game Show which suggests Disgaea Infinite will be shown for both PSP and PSN, along with numerous other unannounced Square Enix properties like Thexder Neo and Crystal Defenders for PSP Mini.

WiiWare: CastleVania Gets Rebirth Treatment

castlevaniarebirth.jpg

A surprise weekend update to the ESRB listings has revealed Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth will be coming to WiiWare.

Konami have recently done Rebirth games for Gradius and Contra, but a Castlevania game is a whole other beast. From the title it sounds like it might be a remake of Castlevania: The Adventure, which was the very first Gameboy Castlevania title back in 1989. It stayed very close to the NES design of Castlevania titles, but was known to be very slow.

The description from the ESRB states:

"This is a side-scrolling action game in which players battle against monsters in Dracula's castle. Players use a chained whip to fight their way through halls and dungeons filled with zombies, skeletons, flying eyeballs, and bats. The enemy creatures frequently shoot projectiles and attack players in hand-to-hand combat. If players sustain too much damage, they keel over and emit a burst of red blood. Some rooms in the castle also have spikes or spears stained with red, blood-like splotches."

We should hopefully hear more about this game soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

XBLA: First Footage Of QIX++, Plus Loads More

Our old pal puredegarbanzos, who has previously uncovered footage of several Xbox Live Arcade games, has decided to add a bit of style to his latest YouTube video, creating a montage of 9 upcoming titles.

This video includes the very first footage of QIX++, Taito's downloadable sequel to their 1982 arcade title which we revealed by us a couple of months ago. It certainly looks like QIX, they're not going all out with a parade of colors, it's QIX in high definition.

QIX isn't the only game on this video though - Serious Sam: The First Encounter, RayStorm HD, Panzer Generals, Ion Assault, Lucidity, Tower Bloxx Deluxe, Vandal Hearts and Quake Arena Arcade are all accounted for here, which usually means the games are all very close to completion, so look out for them soon.

cboxloderunner.jpgDeal Of The Week

This week's Deal Of The Week is Lode Runner on Xbox Live Arcade. Xbox Live Gold users will be able to pick it up for 800MSP ($8) instead of the usual price of 1200MSP ($15).

Those who follow the Xbox Live Arcade might remember that Lode Runner was accidentily released at 800MSP for around 8 hours, and then was put back at its correct 1200MSP price point. Some were frustrated with this change and never got around to picking it up - so now's the time to do so!

DSiWare: DSiWare Becoming The Place For Shmups?

zonewonder.png

Japanese studio Genterprise are on a mission, a mission to release small DSiWare titles released at the low, low price of 200 Nintendo Points. Today they have revealed G.G Wonder Story and G.G Zone, two new shmups coming to the DSi.

Wonder Story is a vertical shooter which, somehow, is based off of Alice in Wonderland, while Zone is a side scrolling shooter where you can shoot in 8 directions.

Earlier this month Japan also received Aa Mujou Setsuna, another vertical shooter made by an Arika / Nintendo collaboration. While Japanese developers have spoken previously about the difficulties getting their titles, and specifically shooters, onto the Xbox Live Arcade, it appears DSiWare is having no such trouble.

While none of their games have been revealed for the Western audience, it's certainly better than all this silly express stuff we've been seeing. Hopefully we'll be getting it soon.

DSiWare: Bomberman To Explode On DSiWare

bombermanlanddsi.png Bomberman has come to every console in some variation, and is coming to each of the again with Bomberman Live: Battlefest this year, but now its been revealed that Hudson are planning a DSiWare version of Bomberman, according to Andriasang.

Hudson had actually been doing a very unique thing on the Nintendo DS with their prior Bomberman titles. Bomberman Touch!, Touch! 2, Bomberman Story DS and Custom Battler Bomberman / Bomberman 2 all included an online 8P battle mode, and every one of them would connect to the same servers in order to keep the online community alive.

While nothing has been announced, I could see this as being a DSiWare version of that same mode, connecting to the same people who are playing on their DS Lite systems. The more people who play together, the more likely you'll get a game.

PSN: Fat Princess Shows Some New Pork

Fat Princess is doing quite well for itself on the PlayStation Network but some new maps would certainly be a treat - well a new level called New Pork was shown off at PAX, and now the PlayStation.Blog has some of the first footage.

The level is much larger than most Fat Princess' levels, so it'll probably allow you to sneak past undetected more often. No price, date or anything has been announced regarding when it'll be available.

PSN: Söldner Sequel Coming This Winter

soldnerx2.jpg

Hong Kong publisher eastasiasoft has announced that a sequel to their PSN game Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer, will be making its way back to the platform this winter.

Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype is being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3, so it sounds like there will not be a PC version this time around. It will feature 7 levels in 1080p (the first game was 720p), two new ships and a new bullet pattern system.

The original game had a lot of middling reviews, so lets hope they up the ante this time around.

XBLA: Xbox Live Rating System Helps Indie Games Sales

indiegamesales.jpgIt’s been roughly a month since Microsoft last updated the not-so-new-anymore New Xbox Experience, and with it came several additions to the Xbox Live Marketplace – a new pricing structure for Xbox Live Indie Games and a new system that allowed people to rate each and every piece of marketplace content.

The rating system was a crucial addition for Indie Games – there had been a lot of complaints that the marketplace was cluttered, and Indie developers were getting demoralized by seeing more apps than games in the Major Nelson Top 10.

So a month later, how has the rating system and price drop affected Xbox Indie Games? We contacted several developers to get their side of the story.

XBLA: Confirmed: Spongebob GravJet Racing Is XBLA Title

spongebobbbb.jpgEarlier this week we revealed that SpongeBob and the Nicktoons GravJet Racing was coming to the Xbox 360 - but now we can reveal that it is an Xbox Live Arcade title.

Our sister site Gamasutra took our lead and ran with it, and was able to get an official response from a Nickelodeon representative. It will be the first self-published title for SpongeBob on XBLA.

Back in 2007 THQ gave the Xbox Live Arcade a shot with Spongebob Squarepants Underpants Slam, but even at the time it was a poor title, and very limited in scope.

GravJet Racing sounds a whole lot more ambitious. The Xbox 360 has very few Kart racing games - retail or digital. The only game out there is Mad Tracks, which has not ages particularly well, or GripShift which is more about the challenge mode levels than the racing.

The only two weapon based Kart racers coming out soon are Things On Wheels for XBLA and Sega SuperStar Racing for retail. It's crazy that we haven't seen a HD Crash Bandicoot Racing game, not to mention that the iPhone has just got games like Konami's Krazy Kart - the kind of game that would be perfect on XBLA.

I just hope that it'll be good. Hopefully it's better than what they've done before.

DSiWare, WiiWare: Nintendo Revealed WiiWare, DSiWare LineUp For The Holiday Season

nintendolineup.jpg

Nintendo WiiWare and DSiWare is a little difficult to gauge sometimes, usually because we don't know what's coming out each and every week, but today Nintendo has revealed the majority of their holiday lineup, and it includes a lot of surprises.

For WiiWare it was revealed that the BIT.TRIP series will continue on after VOID - 3 more titles in the series will be released in Q4 of 2008 and Q1 of 2009. I've never really thought of the BIT.TRIP series as episodic, looks like I was wrong.

Gameloft will also be porting over The Oregon Trail to WiiWare - likely to be based off of their iPhone version.

On the DSiWare front we'll finally be seeing some more interesting games coming in the next few months. Nitnendo will be publishing Art Style: Digidrive, a port of the GBA game in the Japanese bit generation series, and like the original it is being developed by Q-Games, who are best known for their PixelJunk games on the PlayStation Network.

While we don't know anything about it yet, Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon will be coming out in Q4. It's a perfect fit for the system, and I'm hoping that Metroid Prime Pinball developers Fuse Games are on this.

Fieldrunners will also be making its way to DSiWare in Q4 - following the very popular iPhone tower defense game and the recently announced PSP minis version. It will be interesting to see how well the game works on a system without true widescreen support.

It's been a long time coming, but Wayforward have finally revealed Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, a sequel to their Gameboy Color game which has since become a bit of an indie darling in the industry. A very welcome addition.

There's plenty more where that came from, continue reading to get the full list of games coming this holiday season.

DSiWare, WiiWare: Clayfighter Gets Remade For WiiWare And DSiWare

clayfighterdsiwiiw.jpg

Interplay are doing quite a bit with their old IPs - first the sale of Fallout to Bethesda, then the Gameloft remakes of Earthworm Jim, and now they're going to publish a new Clayfighter game for WiiWare and DSiWare.

The game is being developed by StudioBlack Games, a fairly new development studio which also happens to house Eric Hart, one of the programmers for Clayfighter 2 and designers of Clayfighter 63 1/3. The press release suggest he programmed the original game but Mobygames says differently. Apparently he was one of the original developers of the Sierra King's Quest / Space Quest / Leisure Suit Larry engines too, neat.

Clayfighter is planned for a Summer 2010 release. The original game has not aged particularly well, so it'll be very interesting to see what they do with this. What's next? Boogerman?

Source: Interplay to update Clayfighter

WiiWare: WiiWare Summit - First Worms: Battle Islands Footage

Team 17 are finally bringing Worms to WiiWare after that strange retail Space Oddity game a year or so ago.

Worms: Battle Islands will include a single player campaign mode where you battle across numerous islands and earn new buildings and items. This actually sounds much more interesting than the simple Worms 2 Armageddon campaign.

The game will also include new weapons like an EMP grenade and a flare. It appears to also include many new favourites like a helicopter (Modern Warfare Style) and the Bull of lies. There is also a weapon factory where you can create your own weapons. Sounds better than the PlayStation Network version already.

And best of all, you can play multiplayer across Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection!

Apparently this game is set to be released later this month, so keep your eyes open for it.

Source: nintendo.co.uk

WiiWare: WiiWare Summit - First Super Meat Boy Footage

Team Meat have been pretty secretive about their upcoming Super Meat Boy project - they've had interviews but we had not seen a single screenshot of video of the game - until now.

Super Meat Boy will be moving away from his vertical platforming prison and can now move around the world much more freely. Still after that girlfriend of his though.

The game will feature over 150 levels, more then a hundred of them being in the single player campaign. You'll be able to play against friends in cooperative or versus mode, or just create your own level in the game's own level editor.

The game is set to be released Q1 2010.

DSiWare: DSiWare Summit - Castle Of Magic, Completely 2D Adventure

[Edit: It appears that the game is actually a port of their other mobile version of the game, but appears largely retooled with better control and better graphics]

Gameloft are making a big splash across the digital download spectrum, but usually games across platforms have been very similar to each other. While Castle of Magic is well known as a popular iPhone title, this new DSiWare game is an entirely different adventure.

Castle of Magic will have you explore 5 different worlds to battle a variety of enemies using your many magical powerups. Unlike the iPhone version, which was 3D but running along a 2D plain, Castle of Magic is a wholly sprite based adventure but keeps the games' unique features.

The game will also feature a bizarre use of the DSi camera where you can plaster your face onto the hero's own. Looks weird but hey, who am I to judge? Imagine what you can do with that... on second thought, don't.

The game is set to be released next month, so it's not too far away now.

WiiWare: WiiWare Summit - New Max & The Magic Marker Trailer

Apparently we missed this new trailer for Max & The Magic Marker last month, poor form on our part, but we'll make up for it right now.

The game has gotten a bit of a facelift since we last saw it, but it's still looking as intentive as ever. It will feature 15 levels and plenty of secrets and unlockables.

The game hasn't got a date at the moment, but expect it in 2010.

Source: Nintendo.co.uk

WiiWare: WiiWare Summit - Zombie Panic in Wonderland Shoots Stuff

Akaoni Studios have revealed a new trailer for Zombie Panic In Wonderland for the WiiWare Summit in Europe.

"A young hero gets involved in the attack of a sudden worldwide explosion of zombies. To save his friends from the "amorous zombies’" spell, machine gun in hand, he will have to solve the mystery of the "scented dwarves" and destroy the evil power hidden in the castle of the most northern city in Zombie Panic in Wonderland…"

The game is set to be released in December. It's looking quite good so far, I just hope the shooting action doesn't get boring too quickly.

DSiWare: WiiWare Summit - Chillingo Brings iDracula To Consoles

While Gameloft, Subatomic and other iPhone studios have started to find their way to home console platforms, we haven't seen much from the other big iPhone publishers - but that's all set to change with Chillingo's revelationg that Dracula - Undead Awakening is set for WiiWare and DSiWare

Dracula, or iDracula as its known on the iPhone, is a dual stick shooter where you fight against the hordes of the undead, werewolves and other monsters. All we have currently is a name on a list so how this will work with the Wii and DS is unknown - we'd assume you touch where you want to shoot rather than the iPhone's faux dual stick style.

Now that Chillingo is on the platform, I'd like to see what else they've got in store. Their iPhone Boulder Dash game could work great on Wii, and Defender Chronicles is basically made for both platforms.

WiiWare, XBLA: WiiWare Summit - Hoopworld Lives, Now On Wii

Way back in 2006 Streamline Studios and Virtual Toys announced Hoopworld for Xbox Live Arcade - a game that melds Power Stone with the sport of Basketball. After that everything went quiet, and nearly 3 years later the game hasn't been heard of for years.

But now according to the European WiiWare release schedule the game is back on, and has changed platforms.

It looked good on the Xbox Live Arcade, but who knows where the game is now 3 years later. What I find funny is that the developer was interviewed years ago grumbling about the XBLA's 50MB file size limit that was implemented at the time, and now it's here on WiiWare. It is to laugh.

Those who follow the Xbox Live Arcade might remember that Lode Runner was accidentily released at 800MSP for around 8 hours, and then was put back at its correct 1200MSP price point. Some were frustrated with this change and never got around to picking it up - so now's the time to do so!

XBLA: Rainbow Islands XBLA Supports Avatars, Online Play

rainbowislandavatars.jpg

When Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure was released on WiiWare earlier this year, a lot of people were miffed with the new designs for Bubby & Bobby. Instead of these little fat kids jumping around we had these much taller, lanky kids throwing rainbows everything. We may now know the reason for it - the Avatars are playable in the Xbox Live Arcade version.

The Xbox.com splash page for Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure has recently popped up - and despite that we've spoken about the game, the XBLA version is still technically unannounced. In the first screenshots of the game it shows off the ability to choose your Avatar as one of the costumes for your player. Avatars have very similar height to the new Bubby & Bobby, which may have been a reason behind their redesign.

The splash page also reveals that the game includes online multiplayer - something missing from the Bubble Bobble release this week. However it appears the cooperative mode is local only, but you can play the race mode online. The WiiWare version also only had 7 areas to play, while the splash page claims the XBLA version has 10 areas.

The WiiWare version got some lackluster reviews, so I wouldn't expect this to have a lot of differences. If you're hankering for a new Rainbow Islands though, this might be the version to pick up.

PSN Minis: PSP Minis To Drop Features To Decrease Approval Time

pspgo.jpgAt the Game Developers Conference in Austin, TX, it has been revealed that PSP Mini games will not be allowed to have wireless multiplayer functionality, downloadable content, or software updates, claiming the rules are in place to "speed up the approval process".

Speaking to Gamasutra, SCEA senior account manager Justin Cooney said that including those features would "defeat the purpose of having a dedicated [quality assurance] service for smaller content". While wireless multiplayer is barred, single system multiplayer will be allowed.

Coony claims that PSP minis titles should only take 3-5 days to get through the approval process, unlike full range games that tend to take 2-3 weeks. While the iPhone initially started off as having simple single player games, it has since broadened out into having a variety of features - online multiplayer has been implemented in games after the fact.

Considering the PSP mini is an online platform which requires an online connection to actually buy anything, it seems absurd that you wouldn't allow online multiplayer. It does appear that rules are made to be broken, since Gameloft are bringing UNO to the system, and there's no chance that a Texas Poker Game isn't being developed right now.

Not allowing downloadable content also appears to be short sighted, since the game Minigore is attempting to create an episodically developed game on the iPhone which will update regularly.

It seems incredibly short sighted on their part - if the only way to get the approval process down is to cut features, what's the point? While not mentioned, I would also expect that Leaderboards are also not available either.

To read the full article, head over to Gamasutra.

PSN Minis: Thexder NEO Revealed, Out In Two Weeks

Square Enix have added the official page of Thexder Neo to their Japanese website, complete with the first trailer of the game in action.

Going by the trailer, the game has beaten the odds and made it from 1985 in tact and better than ever. I was a little worried that the game would be too slow and weird, but Square-Enix have done a fantastic job here. They appear to have taken the Bionic Commando Rearmed approach - keep it straight forward and simple enhance it.

The game is set to be released worldwide on October 1st - the launch day of PSP minis, for the equivelant of $10. It appears that this is not coming to the PS3 at this time, and for now is PSP only.

XBLA: Leaked: Screenshots, Concept Artwork For Spongebob GravJet Racing

gravjetracer.jpg

Thanks to an anonymous tipster, we've been able to secure the first screenshots of Spongebob GravJet Racing, an upcoming title for the Xbox Live Arcade.

The game appears to be a mixture of F-Zero's fast and loopy track design alongside Wipeout's weapon based action. From the screenshots, which you can check out below, a wide selection of old and new characters can be seen.

Spongebob is obviously there, but we can also see the likes of Ren & Stimpy and Jenny from My Life As A Teenage Robot. They also show characters from more recent shows like Back at the Barnyard and The Mighty B, and a show that hasn't even started yet - Fanboy and Chum Chum.

The entire cast isn't shown, but I would love to see some more older characters - Rocko, Ahh Real Monsters, an Angry Beaver or two.

WiiWare: Interview: Frontier Getting Lost In The Winds

lostwindsinterview.jpgSequels are a strange thing to see on the digital medium - sitting alongside their previous games as if they came out the same time, but that hasn't stopped them from expanding on the original formula, and in most cases besting their previous efforts.

One of the biggest WiiiWare titles at the launch of the service was Lost Winds - a fantastic example of what WiiWare games can provide. With the sequel Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias just around the corner, we hunted down an interview with David Braben, Chairman of Frontier and Executive Producer of LostWinds, to discuss the new abilities the player has, his thoughts on the WiiWare service, and plenty more.
