PSN, WiiWare, XBLA: Snap Dragon Plans To Remake Data East Titles

badtumblechamp.jpg

According to NeoGAF user CHR_AeON the latest issue of M! Games, a German Magazine, suggests that SnapDragon Games have currently 4 downloadable titles currently in production, 3 being remakes of old games from the Data-East catalog.

The 3 titles are Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja for XBLA and PSN, Karate Champ for XBLA, and TumblePop for XBLA, PSN and WiiWare.

Bad Dudes is the 1988 side scrolling Beat-Em-Up, mostly known in infamy for its storyline rather than its quality, Karate Champ was the 1-on-1 fighting game, basically the same as International Karate, and TumblePop is a mixture of Bubble Bobble and Snow Bros., but with Vacuums.

All 3 games are from the Data-East catalog are pieces bought by G-Mode. SnapDragon Games have only released one title at this point - Karate Phants for WiiWare. Unfortunately it's also known as one of the worst WiiWare titles out there. Maybe they'll have better luck with these old games. They are also working on a new game called Desert Creeps for an undisclosed console.

While it's nice and all to see old games be remade, some of these choices appear to be quite bizarre. Karate Champ is an old, OLD game in which we already have Yie Ar Kung-Fu - It has little redeeming qualities now. TumblePop and Bad Dudes are okay games, but unless they go further than a straight up remake or ROM dump, I can't gather what the point of bringing them back would be. G-Mode are currently out to license all their properties.

It would be great to see some of the old Data East Games titles remade. Burger Time, Super Burger Time, or the recently released Burger Time Deluxe on the PC would be a good add to any console. The RPG titles Dark Seal: Gate of Doom and Dark Seal II: Wizard Fire would also be a great port if both games came as a bundle. And the list goes on. But one really has to wonder why they chose the titles they did to start.
