"Released in 1987, the football game that took America by storm is back. This arcade version required a custom-made dual-screen cabinet and was popular for its large characters and intense graphics. The game is filled with great action as players take control of receivers and running backs, quickly moving the controller to break a tackle. Play alone or with up to four players in a two-on-two match. Experience the best moments of both competitive and cooperative play, finding holes in your opponent's defense, then savor the thrill of receiving a pass thrown by your teammate. In addition, game options such as play time, team division and difficulty level can be adjusted."

PSN: Braid Finally Making Its Way To PSN

ps3braid.jpgAccording to the latest update to the German USK Ratings website, Braid is finally making its way to the PlayStation Network, over a year since its release on the Xbox Live Arcade.

The game is being ported by Hothead games, creators of the Penny Arcade games and the people who ported both Braid and The Maw to the PC earlier this year.

It is assumed that the game will be entirely intact - it is doubtful that the game will gain any additional features during the process. We expect a full announcement during the Gamescom Convention in Cologne, Germany on August 19th.

PSN, WiiWare, XBLA: Snap Dragon Plans To Remake Data East Titles

badtumblechamp.jpg

According to NeoGAF user CHR_AeON the latest issue of M! Games, a German Magazine, suggests that SnapDragon Games have currently 4 downloadable titles currently in production, 3 being remakes of old games from the Data-East catalog.

The 3 titles are Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja for XBLA and PSN, Karate Champ for XBLA, and TumblePop for XBLA, PSN and WiiWare.

Bad Dudes is the 1988 side scrolling Beat-Em-Up, mostly known in infamy for its storyline rather than its quality, Karate Champ was the 1-on-1 fighting game, basically the same as International Karate, and TumblePop is a mixture of Bubble Bobble and Snow Bros., but with Vacuums.

All 3 games are from the Data-East catalog are pieces bought by G-Mode. SnapDragon Games have only released one title at this point - Karate Phants for WiiWare. Unfortunately it's also known as one of the worst WiiWare titles out there. Maybe they'll have better luck with these old games. They are also working on a new game called Desert Creeps for an undisclosed console.

While it's nice and all to see old games be remade, some of these choices appear to be quite bizarre. Karate Champ is an old, OLD game in which we already have Yie Ar Kung-Fu - It has little redeeming qualities now. TumblePop and Bad Dudes are okay games, but unless they go further than a straight up remake or ROM dump, I can't gather what the point of bringing them back would be. G-Mode are currently out to license all their properties.

PSN, WiiWare, XBLA: Downloadable Madden Arcade Title Coming This Year

johnmutant.jpg

Earlier this year EA released 3-On-3 NHL Hockey, a simple arcade style Hockey game to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Now today during EA's quarterly earnings report Peter Moore revealed that Madden Arcade will be coming out later this year.

Outside of the announcement nothing was revealed, but it will likely follow the simplified, big head style that NHL Arcade worked with. I do hope that they use real teams this time, instead of the simplified Red Vs. Blue team choice. I hope there's some homage to Mutant League Football too - it'd keep a lot of old fans happy.

XBLA: New Dust Trailer Released, Still Looks Amazing

Back in May it was revealed that independent animated feature film Elysian Tail was getting its own XNA game - and now the now first official teaser for the game is live.

As the only animator, writer and programmer on Dust: An Elysian Tail, Dean Dodrill is now hard at work on both projects. The game is currently set to be released on XBL Indie Games sometime in the future (or possibly XBLA if everything goes right) so for the moment check out the new trailer, and support the fellows projects.

WiiWare: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Comes Thrice To WiiWare

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, a popular series on the Nintendo DS, has made its way to WiiWare in Japan - in three separate adventures released on the same day.

The games, translated to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Go For It! Light Adventure Squad!, Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad! and Keep Going! Blazing Adventure Squad!, all use similar Pokemon designs used in the Pokemon Ranch titles.

As with most Pokemon titles the only major differences rely on the kind of Pokemon you get to choose from - Lightning, Water or Fire. The games should be making their way for WiiWare in the US later this year, and should retail for 1200 Nintendo Points.

XBLA: Developers Weigh In On XBL Indie Game Price Drop

xblindieprice.jpgIt's been a little over 2 weeks since XBL Indie Games had its prices changed, so we asked some of the top tier developers of XBL Indie Games about the changes - what they thought on the new pricing scheme, and what they plan to do for their past - and future - titles.

Nathan Fouts of Mommy’s Best Games, known for Weapon Of Choice and the upcoming Grapple Buggy, believes that “600 Microsoft Points was the right price for a high quality game on XBL Indie Games” rather than 800MSP, but that option was never available. He hopes than the new 80MSP price point will “stave off any need from Microsoft to make a 'free game' option”, and that it stays in-line with the iPhone approach. As Weapon Of Choice was already 400MSP, it will not be affected by the new changes.

Halfbrick, an independent studio in Australia, have releases two titles in their Halfbrick Fridays program on the XBL Indie Games – Blast Off and Echoes. Their issue now is for their next title, Halfbrick Rocket Racing, which they intended to sell at 200MSP, but now will need to choose between two price points. “That’s a huge gap”, says Phil Larsen, Marketing Manager at Halfbrick. “When you’re talking about selling thousands of units. The next price point up from the lowest is triple that amount. This may cause a so-called “Race to the Bottom” scenario where everyone releases games as cheap as possible just to compete, like the iPhone App Store.” Rocket Racing will “almost certainly be 240 Points, which is a nice spot to be for a full-featured game”.

Someone who has already played both sides of the XBL Indie Games and and Xbox Live Arcade Games is James Silva, creator of the wildly popular Dishwasher: Dead Samurai on XBLA and both ZSX4 Guitarpocalypse and ZP2K9 on XBL Indie Games. “I've said for awhile that I wanted a lower minimum price point”, he says, “so I'm glad about this” Speaking of his previous games James claims “If I was just releasing ZP2K9 I'd probably do 240MSP, but it's been awhile since launch so I'm going to let that go to 80MSP.”

James does wish for one change though – a middle ground cost. “I'm sure it doesn't make a huge difference in the long run, but my quasi-obsessive-compulsive side wants a 160MSP price point!”

Finally Matt Davis of Barkers Crest, the creator of Easy Golf, is a little miffed by the distaste for these lower price points by some developers. “There is only one group of people who have access to all sales data for all games”, he says, “And that group of people just happen to be the same people who made the price change. At this point in time they are the only people who can perform a strong statistical analysis on sales trends as a whole”

Are you also an XBL Indie Developer? Let us know what you think of the recent changes.

WiiWare, XBLA: Sarbakan Developing Dig It Up For XBLA, WiiWare

digitup.jpgCanadian developer Sarbakan have revealed that they have conjoured a new developer partnership with Microsoft for an original Xbox Live Arcade release - and by doing so have revealed that they are currently working on Dig It Up for XBLA and WiiWare.

On their website, within their original titles section, Dig It Up appears. Outside of the logo, nothing more has been said, but it supposedly will be out in 2009.

Sounds very I Dig It or Miner Dig Deep style. Guess we won't know until they officially announce something.

XBLA: Zen Pinball Nets Street Fighter II HD Remix Table

sf2hdpinball.png

Zen Studios have revealed through the PlayStation Blog that a Street Fighter II HD Remix table will be coming to Zen Pinball sometime this month.

Zen Studios' Pinball FX on Xbox Live Arcade also received a Street Fighter II HD Remix table back when the game originally came out, which you can check out in this video. I suspect this table will be the same design, but be retrofitted with the new additions and styling of Zen Pinball.

It's nice to see - but after their teaser image I was hoping it was a Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 board to go with the games' release in 2 weeks on PSN. No matter - but I hope they continue to push out new boards every couple of months. If PAIN can do it, so can they.

WiiWare: EU Nintendo Update - Bonsai Barber, The Revenge Of Shinobi

Wii Points: 1000
Game Type: Barber Simulation (Bonsai)

"The village residents are hungry for the latest in foliage fashion, and it's up to you-the new barber-to fix them up. Use the tools of your trade: scissors, clippers, spray can, and more, in this humorous, first-of-its-kind "first-person-groomer" game.

"Bonsai Barber features a colourful cast of twelve intriguing customers, including a temperamental shallot starlet (don't call her an onion!), an oddball strawberry boffin, a cactus cowboy, a daredevil carrot, and a suave banana with top-secret clearance and a license to peel.

"Each day, five customers arrive to test your stylistic skill. If the customer requests a specific style, you'll plow that furrow, or you can rely on your expertise to pick from over thirty popular fashions... Or why not turn over a new leaf; be creative and see how they react!

"They're a demanding bunch, so if you miss an appointment, you'll hear about it-on your Wii Message Board. But, if you do a good job, you may receive a gift or even a postcard from an exotic destination, as your happy customers travel to distant lands and show off their exquisite coifs."

virtualconsole.pngThe Revenge of Shinobi

Wii Points: 800
Game Type: Sports, Arcade
Players: 1
Format: Sega Megadrive

Via HG101: "One of the first titles released in America for the Genesis, Revenge of Shinobi was one of the strongest titles Sega had to offer. Taking a departure from the rather straightforward arcade action of its predecessor, Revenge of Shinobi ditched the concept of saving hostages, and created larger, more open level (and eliminated the need to hold up and jump to leap to different levels.) You also get a life bar, although you have a limited amount of shurikens."

"Revenge of Shinobi is also well known for its soundtrack, created by video game music legend Yuzo Koshiro. While I personally find the music to be a bit overrated, there are a few pretty decent tunes, especially the boss battle, "Terrible Beat". Note that these MP3s are from "The Super Shinobi & Works" soundtrack album. The drum samples are higher quality than they are in the game."

WiiWare, XBLA: The Taito Remakes Continue - First Screens Of RayStorm HD

2epk5c6.jpg

We've been through Arkanoid, Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble, Space Invaders and Rainbow Islands on WiiWare and (mostly unannounced for) Xbox Live Arcade, but where to from here? Why Raystorm of course.

NeoGAF's XBLA Guardian Shard now has his own secret contact who happens to have sent him the first screenshots of RayStorm HD and the XBLA version of Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure.. Raystorm HD appears to be what it says - a HD remake of the PSOne and Arcade game RayStorm - not some renaming of RayForce or RayCrisis - straight up RayStorm. It even has the "extra" mode from the PSOne version.

RayStorm got some great reviews when it came out in 1997, but will it hold up now, and will this also be coming to WiiWare? You can check out the screenshots of the game here, and you can look at the first screenshots of Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure for XBLA here which is essentially a HD version of the WiiWare release.

XBLA: Dream-Build-Play '09 Showcase - Guru Guru

The Dream Build Play entering time is now officially over - now it's time for those who entered to show off their projects. There are hundreds of entrance this year - so we decided to go on a lookout for new trailers for the entrants. We're going to do a day-by-day look at each title that looks great and help bring the XNA platform to the forefront.

Today's entry is Guru Guru - a platform game that brings the dark stylings of The Dishwasher to the rolling ball aethetic of Loco Roco and Rolando. In its current form it looks great, and is a game that looks a whole lot better than most of the XBL Indie Games out there. Check it out!

XBLA: Indie Watch - 3D Tower Defense, And No Reason NOT To buy Biology Battle

biologyglitnir.jpg

Biology Battle was one of the great titles at the launch of the Xbox Live Community Games, initially released at 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Back in May it dropped down to 400MSP ($5) - and now just a few months later with the new price points, you can grab yourself a copy for a measly 240MSP ($3). If you even remotely enjoy twin stick shooters do yourself a favor and download the trial version.

A second recent addition to XBL Indie Games is Glitnir, a new style of Tower Defense game based in a cube. The enemy have a strict path but can now up up, down, left or right - and your defenses (satellites) have a 3D view on the world, expanding what they can attack on a moments notice.

It's a very novel idea, though the controls could certainly have some extra work added to them (the developer should really take a look at the Banjo Kazooie - Nuts & Bolts editor) but it's also something I've never seen before, and itches my Tower Defense scratch. Plus it's got a great UI - better than most XBL Indie Games I've seen.

Definitely check it out - only 80MSP too.
