XBLA: @E3 '09 - The Xbox Live Arcade Montage

While the Xbox Live Arcade did not have much of a presence at the Microsoft press conference. they have released a brand new montage of new titles, including 'Splosion Man, Shadow Complex, TMNT: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled, Secret Of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Battlefield 1943, Joyride and Trials HD.

Check it out in the embeded video.

XBLA: The Making of Secret Of Monkey Island - Special Edition

Just as we revealed a week ago, The Secret Of Monkey Island is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade in delicious high definition. The game follows the original game exactly, complete with rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle, and you will be able to change from the brand new HD graphics to the classic graphics with just a push of a button.

The video above details the crazy amount of work that is being put into this special edition - new graphics, completely voiced, brand new hint system and an entirely new interface that will work with the Xbox 360 controller.

Check it out above, and check out the official website for The Secret Of Monkey Island: Special Edition here.

PSN: Creat Studios Reveal Digger And Mushroom Wars For PSN

digmush.png

Creat Stdios have announced two more PlayStation Network exclusive titles - Digger and Mushroom Wars.

"Digger, a remake of the classic PC game from the early 80s, has received a major facelift for the new millennium, while staying true to its classic gameplay. Players control a little construction vehicle that must make its way through an underground maze. Gamers dig through the dirt horizontally and vertically to create their own path while collecting power-ups, jewels, coins and other bonuses while avoiding the pursuing monsters."

Never heard of Digger? Check out this Wikipedia page on the game.

Click here for the first screenshots of the game.

"Mushroom Wars is an all-ages, fast-paced, real time strategy (RTS) game that brings arcade skirmish gameplay to the forefront. With a quaint visual style featuring opposing tribes of mushroom armies, your battles take place in close-quarters maps using simple, straight-forward controls. Play short campaigns with Domination objectives where your goal is to take control of key strategic points, or play Conquest battles where the only way to win is to completely annihilate your opponent. Upgrade your bases to support larger armies, improve weaponry or act as defensive installations. Move your armies into position and hopefully win the day. "

XBLA: Microsoft Announce User Rating System, Downloadable Full Games

xboxlivelogo.pngMicrosoft have revealed that a rating system will be coming to Xbox Live, as well as being able to buy full retail titles through the system itself.

A five-star user rating system will be added to every item in the Xbox marketplace - meaning both Xbox Live Arcade and XBL Community Games will be included. This is one of the most requested features that I've certainly wanted for the XBL Community Games with so many people whining about it being difficult to find the best titles. This should also help Xbox Live Arcade titles that were overlooked, such as Switchball and GripShift.

Games On Demand will allow players to purchase complete, retail Xbox 360 games through the Xbox Live Marketplace. This will include games like Mass Effect, Bioshock and Assassins Creed. While we will not be following this in the future, it's an interesting development for Xbox Live and in the future we could see certain full retail titles be only available digitally, or a game like Halo might have a map you only get by downloading it digitally. They're not talking a whole lot about it now but moving forward we could see this dramatically changing how we buy "retail" titles.

WiiWare: Tales Of Monkey Island Announce For WiiWare

While the Xbox Live Arcade may be getting a remake of the original Monkey Island, Nintendo's WiiWare service will be getting brand new episodic content through Tales Of Monkey Island.

"Telltale's Tales of Monkey Island brings the adventures of pirate Guybrush Threepwood into a new era with an explosive storyline that becomes deeper and more entangled during the course of the five-episode saga. While battling his nemesis, the evil pirate LeChuck, Guybrush accidentally unleashes an insidious voodoo pox that threatens to transform the buccaneers of the Caribbean into unruly pirate monsters. Players will experience the humor, romance, and swashbuckling action the Monkey Island games are famous for and unravel an insidious plot which is revealed across the course of the series."

TalesMonkey Island titles. The first of five episodes will be releasing on July 7th on the PC, and if the Strongbad series is anything to go by it will be released on WiiWare around the same time.

XBLA: Trials HD Revealed, Flying Bike Into Walls In High Definition

PSN: @E3 Press Dump - Gravity Crash Creates Levels On PSN

"Exclusive to the PlayStation 3 system and available for download only on PlayStation Network, Gravity Crash combines vintage arcade shooter gameplay with striking HD vector graphics running in 1080p at 60 frames per second. In Gravity Crash, developed by Just Add Water, the player pilots a small craft. Mastering the flight mechanics to combat the perpetual gravitational pull is the key to success. Armed with an arsenal of main and special weapons, a rechargeable shield and a carefully watched fuel gauge, players battle gravity and inertia through 37 planets that each feature environmental dangers, enemies and other obstacles. Along the way, players will encounter volcanic eruptions, winding caverns and bodies of water in their pursuit to complete their mission."

"Additionally, Gravity Crash is the first Arcade Shooter on PSN to offer a Level Editor. Players can design their own planet fraught with danger, from narrow, twisting tunnels to deadly enemies. Then, they can publish and share it for others on the PlayStation Network to download and enjoy. New content publishing on PSN guarantees fresh and exciting new levels every time a player turns on Gravity Crash."

"With “old school” arcade gameplay and glossed and colorful HD vector visuals, Gravity Crash offers a sense of 1980s arcade nostalgia while delivering the latest in visuals exclusively on PS3."

PSN: @E3 Press Dump - PAIN: Museum Breaks Things

PainScreenshotC_00004.jpg

"Keep quiet? Don’t touch? Just appreciate the artwork? They don’t know you very well, do they? When the Museum add-on for PAIN, one of the PlayStation Network’s most downloaded games, arrives exclusively for PS3 this summer, history will never be the same. Well, at least natural history won’t. PAIN: Museum gives players a chance to bring some excitement to the quiet and mundane world of the museum. Apparently, Somebody’s managed to get a new launcher into the museum, and it’s up to the player to make the most of this awesome opportunity to bring the PAIN!"

"The core, unique mechanic of PAIN allows the player to load a character into an extreme launching device, such as a human-sized, ultra-powerful slingshot, and fire the character into an active, physics-controlled environment, filled with precarious, humorous and sometime suggestive situations. The player receives points by stringing together painful collisions and inducing chaos in the environment. The player must achieve a wide variety of goals and / or reach various scoring milestones in each of the different single player and multiplayer modes of play. As challenging as it is funny, PAIN includes online leaderboards so players can compete against the masses."

"What would you do if that old military artillery on display were still live? Might you chuck those bombs at that huge dinosaur skeleton just to see what happens? Maybe drop a few on that janitor with the buffer who looks like he could use an attitude adjustment? Think you could use one to crack a sarcophagus open?"

"With four different launcher locations to choose from at any time, the Museum is a huge environment, but players should fear not – there is plenty of action to keep them in motion, from escalators to lunar rovers to floor buffers to that giant propeller display mounted into the floor. If players run out of Ooch (PAIN’s momentum mechanic) and begin losing inertia, there will be plenty of opportunity to get it back and keep the fun going. PAIN: Museum is a big new environment with the potential for big scores."

PSN: @E3 Press Dump - PixelJunk Shooter Puts Water On Lava

"Kyoto-based developer, Q-Games, is pleased to introduce the next title in the PixelJunk series, PixelJunk Shooter. In PixelJunk Shooter, players pilot a subterranean vehicle to explore the interior of diverse cave-like complexes. The player must affect the surrounding and dynamic terrain to progress. The goal is to safely navigate through each vivid stage and rescue survivors scattered about the cavernous environment. Each stage is in-effect a flow simulation whereby the player attempts to control various types of liquid (water, magma, etc) and solid matter (rock, earth) either by destroying it, manipulating it or moving it. These dynamic fluid effects are at the heart of the game’s visuals."

"Strategy is paramount in PixelJunk Shooter. The piloted craft is susceptible to extremes of heat, so the player must be careful about the craft’s proximity to magma. If the craft becomes too hot, the player can regain a comfortable temperature by plunging into the nearest water source. Additionally, each stage presents a puzzle scenario for the player to solve in order to safely rescue as many survivors as possible. Both environmental elements and enemies, including Bosses, will attempt to hamper the player’s progress."

"PixelJunk Shooter is the fourth game in Q-Games’ PixelJunk series, which blends simple, addictive gameplay with crisp and attractive graphics designed for optimal viewing in full."

Click here for brand new screenshots of PixelJunk Shooter.

GamerBytes will have a hands on preview coming later in the week.

In addition there will be new trophies to attain, a re-styled front-end and a selection of new & improved multiplayer functionality!"

"The Eliminator game mode will allow you to release all that pent-up aggression as you use the full arsenal of Wipeout weaponry to destroy your opponents. Forget those racing lines; this is all about destruction, with the victor being the first to reach the target score!"

Click here for a ton of new screenshots of the new tracks available in this new DLC.

PSN, XBLA: @E3 - Atlus To Bring Trine To Xbox Live Arcade... Maybe?

trinexbla.jpg

Over at the Atlus E3 booth you may spot an interesting title being displayed - Trine, and on an Xbox 360.

Trine has become quite popular since it was revealed for the PlayStation Network where it is being published by Nobilis. Speaking to Atlus PR developer Frozenbyte also want to release it on the Xbox Live Arcade, and since they're now starting to get ino the downloadable game space with Droplitz, have decided to publish the Xbox Live Arcade version of Trine.

But there are a few hudles in the way of getting this game out on the platform - the game hasn't been given the official nod from Microsoft for concept approval, and therefore Atlus are unable to send out press releases or other information about the game.

Don't remeber what Trine is? Check out the trailer here. So if you want Trine to appear on Xbox Live Arcade, let your voices be heard.

WiiWare: @E3 - You, Me And The Cubes Coming To The West

Beloved nut developer Kenji Eno, after many years of keeping quiet, announced and released a WiiWare title Kimi No Boku. Now it's revealed that it's coming to the west as You, Me, and the Cubes.

You, Me and the Cubes is a balancing game, requiring the player to put two characters onto a platform and keeping it balanced. Moving the characters too close to one of the sides will cause the cube to tip over and fall off, ending the game.

You can check out the first English trailer above, and check out the latest screenshots here.

PSN: The PlayStation Network Is Under Siege

While not at E3, developer Seed Studios have revealed that their upcoming title Under Siege will be coming out for the PlayStation Network.

The game is a real time strategy title set in a fantasy world, and appears to have several different factions, from humans to frog people. Seed Studios just released the first video of the title which you can see above, and so far it looks very nice for a game still quite far from completion.

We'll continue to update with more news on the game as it is released.

PSN: @E3 - Is This What We Can Expect From Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 Online?

The only digital title Capcom were showing during E3 was Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and despite it being an old title there were still plenty of people lining up to play it, but what I found was that the majority of people were going for the cheap kills.

Every single match that I watched involved at least one of the players playing as Sentinel or Cable, eavch well known for being horrifically overpowered and game changers. One match, which I captured on video above, involved 3 Cables.

While I love Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 it's a little worrying if this is the kind of match I can expect to play online with, hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

XBLA: @E3 Preview - 'Splosion Man Loves Birthday Cakes

There were plenty of new Xbox Live Arcade titles dotted around the E3 showfloor, but 'Splosion Man definitely impressed with its high quality of platforming action.

The game is as simple as you can get - everything is done with a single button which causes 'Splosion Man to explode. It is entirely in a 2D-in-3D perspective where you run around and do simple-yet-difficult puzzle platforming. 'Sposion Man can explode three times before he becomes too "charred" to explode anymore, exploding will allow him to perform wild wall jumps that alow you to reach far out places - this is what the game is all based on, and it's great.

While he can explode himself, 'Splosion Man can still die by hitting electrical wires and falling onto deadly spikes, but there are enough checkpoints available that you can get right back into the action - much like The Maw this game does not truly penalize you for dying, but if you want a high time trial score than you'll need to do it all in one shot.

That's not to say that the game doesn't get hard though, one of the levels shown was from near the end of the game which I saw a lot of people attempt and fail at, I was able to complete it but it took multiple tries through one of the sections that required precise aiming and detonation of 'Splosion Man.

The game will include 100 levels split between 50 single player and 50 for multiplayer. The multiplayer levels appear to be all cooperative with one player boosting up a player with an explosion and then they can continue to reach that previously unreachable ledge. Whether the multiplayer levels will be split between ones speciifcally made for 2, 3 and 4 players is currently unknown, but you will be able to play them all locally and online. There are also 3 boss battles being created for the game as well.

'Splosion Man is currently set to be released with the Summer of Arcade lineup this year, so keep coming back to GamerBytes for the latest information on the game.

XBLA: First Perfect Dark XBLA Screenshots Surface

simPerfectDark03.jpg

The Xbox.com splash page for Perfect Dark on Xbox Live Arcade is now live, and includes the first screenshots of the game.

According to the splash page the game is being developed by 4J Studios, who did the remakes of Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, and will include the cooperative play, versus multiplayer of up to 4 players, and will also support online. The way it is set out it appears that cooperative play may only be local only.

From the looks of it the game will also have a complete texture makeover, will run at 1080p and at 60 frames per second. Perfect Dark will be out this Winter.
