PSN, XBLA: GDC '09: New Details On Star Trek DAC Revealed

Originally revealed through a leaflet in a bluray box set, new details on Star Trek DAC have been exposed through IGN and Joystiq chatting with the developers at GDC.

Star Trek D.A.C is an top down space shooter with online multiplayer. In this game you control either the Federation or the Romulans and battle it out in 6v6 space battles.
While other games have attempted a similar style on Xbox Live Arcade, notably Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek DAC will feature some resource gathering which allows you to upgrade your ship.

While the game is being released around the same time as the movie, it does not particularly include any ties to it. It's not really a narrative based adventure, which I don't think many expected it to be anyhow.

Meanwhile IGN have gotten their hands on the first screenshots for the game. It doesn't look too bad, but it also doesn't seem to stand out a whole lot against the competition.

Will it be better than previous Xbox Live multiplayer space shooters? It's a difficult genre to get into for the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, a lot of people may dismiss it purely on the space shooter aesthetic. Hopefully the Star Trek license can continue to keep a good amount of people playing it after release. Check out more information at Joystiq's link below.

Comments

It sounds kind of like Age of Booty mixed with Wing Commander/Battlestar.
