PSN: October's PSN Picks: 'Confronting Rocket Powered Cars'
[Now we've looked at WiiWare and Xbox Live Arcade, let's turn our attention to some of the best titles last month for PlayStation Network on the PS3- looks like the system is getting up to speed further in terms of digital titles.]
A bit of a catchup month for the PlayStation Network. With the release of some of the Xbox Live Arcade's best titles like Prince Of Persia Classic and Puzzle Quest now available on PSN, the XBLA's lead begins to shrink a little bit. Coupled with the release of the exclusive SOCOM Confrontation onto the populace and a new battle racing game, it's all about variety for the PlayStation Network.
Here's the top titles for October:
Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars ($14.99USD, NA only)
Get ready for non-stop action as you take control of a rocket-powered super car! It is a sport like no other, where supersonic cars jump, flip, and rocket boost their way to victory! A Demo is also available.
Kyle Stallock of 1UP.com writes:
"Supersonic seems a tad overpriced at $15 -- especially considering the nigh-featureless multiplayer and bland aesthetics -- but the single-player is short and sweet, and the core mechanics are simple and rewarding."
"This is a game that requires a hefty time investment if one is to get as good as the folks who made the game (and they're capable of some impressive feats of acrobatics to be sure). At $15, it's just a bit too pricey for me to recommend to just anyone, but if the whole idea of pool-meets-soccer (with cars) sounds interesting, well, check out the demo. "

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords ($14.99USD, NA only)
Building upon the addictive and easy to- learn gameplay of a puzzle game by integrating story and character progression elements found in RPGs, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords delivers a brand new type of game that pushes the puzzle genre to a previously unseen level. The PSN version of the game also includes the content from the ‘Wrath of the Plague Lord’ expansion pack.
"An incredibly addictive game, and for fifteen dollars, the combination of the original and expansion pack is a great value for PS3 owners that haven't had a chance to play it or for fans that are interested in checking out the new content."
Andrew Dagley of GamePro writes:
"Anyone with even a passing interest in puzzle or role-playing games should take a long hard look at this endlessly addictive gem. Chances are that within an hour of downloading the trial version you'll be looking to purchase it."
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation ($39.99USD, NA only)

Alone I am Lethal. As a Team I Dominate. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation deploys you online into intense and unpredictable 32-player battles where it’s better to fight as a team than it is to be a hero. Battle teams across the world, earn your Community stripes and become the ultimate Spec Ops squad.
The GameTrailers review writes:
"SOCOM: Confrontation is a fairly safe bet if all you're looking for is a by-the-numbers, online, tactical shooter. Without a single-player campaign to add some flavor, the game does come off as kind of generic."
Joe Rybicki of 1UP.com writes:
"It's been a mess. But growing pains aren't unusual for online games these days. These sorts of kinks get worked out in time, and there's no reason to doubt Confrontation's issues will be smoothed out in the process of a patch or two. But in the meantime, the game is available for purchase at retail and via download through the PlayStation Store, and you deserve to know what that game's like right now."
Prince of Persia Classic ($9.99USD, Worldwide)
"The original action adventure game comes to the PlayStation Network! Rescue the Princess from the clutches of the evil Jaffar in a redux of the original 1989 action-adventure that redefined the platform genre. All set for the HD-era, this enhanced and updated version features new character designs, animations, visuals, and lighting effects, all brought to you in glorious 1080p!"
Aaron Thomas of GameSpot writes:
"Prince of Persia Classic is a fine example of how to modernize an older game while keeping its appeal intact. "
Hilary Goldstein of IGN.com writes:
"Prince of Persia Classic is certainly short, but it's oh so sweet. In many ways this is the template future enhanced classic games should follow."
