XBLA: New Meteos Wars Preview

meteoswars11.jpg

Today IGN got a chance to play Meteos Wars, the updated console revision of the DS action-puzzle game.

The default controls have the A button sliding a Meteos down and the X Button moving it up. You can hold the button down to quickly shuffle blocks around or tap it to move a single square. One of the advantages of playing on a touch screen with Meteos was that you could quickly shift which column you were interacting with by lifting up your hand and placing it somewhere else. Or you could just scratch the bottom of the screen a lot, as was the predominant strategy. Now you'll have to move the cursor around with the analog stick. It's slower than what you could do on the DS, though you can speed up the cursor speed in the options. Still, it took a little getting used to and I found the computer AI putting up quite a challenge even on the third stage of the mission mode.

It's looking pretty good. I just hope that the controls can be satisfying without the stylus. I'm guessing Gunpey will be out next year then?
