PSN, XBLA: IGN Preview Namco's PowerUp Forever

powerupforever.jpg

Namco and Blitz Games announced Powerup Forever sometime ago - at the same time as the original Soulcalibur announcement. It's been sitting around since then - but they've finally brought this XBLA / PSN game out again with IGN giving new impressions of the title.

To make your way through PowerUp Forever you'll need to eliminate the parasite slaves that graze on large dormant enemies, leeching their energy. Kill enough of those little suckers and the Guardian will come out and attack you. Each Guardian, like the enemies of each level, is different. They're typically home to the power you'll get from defeating them and they each have different strategies for beating you.

As you progress, you'll notice that your ship continues to grow. The bigger your ship gets, the larger the enemies that will notice you and thus attack. New enemies continue to pop up as you progress through the various levels.

It's certainly an interesting concept, and the new screenshots give the game a very stylized look to it - something very much needed for this crowded genre. Hopefully it can better Blitz's previous efforts - the Burger King titles.
