XBLA: Get An Early Look - Multiwinia and Pipe Mania PC Demos Now Available

pipewinia.jpg

While we're not sure of when these games will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, demos for the PC versions of Pipe Mania and Multiwinia have been released recently. Now you can check of out if these games will be for you when they eventually get their XBLA release. They both have pretty low specs, so they should work on most computers.

Check out the Pipe Mania demo here.

XBLA: Tenchu: Shadow Assault Revealed, Dated, Priced

The official Japanese Tenchu site has updated recently, revealing a crazy step in the franchise's long-running history - a puzzle/Bomberman-esque title for the Xbox Live Arcade.

Tenchu: Shadow Assault is a top-down title where you run around to either solve a puzzle through the level, or go online with multiplayer in a strange ninja version of Bomberman.

Even stranger - the game is set to be released two Wednesdays from now, on October 8th for 800 Microsoft Points.

Well, what can be said? Braid is a fantastic game, and certainly should get all the praise it does.

I completed the game within a few days and enjoyed every minute of it. The times when you recognize just how you're meant to solve this puzzle after looking at the screen for several minutes just bring a grin to your face.

Just buy it, seriously.

WiiWare: NA WiiWare Update - Bomberman Blast and Art Style: ORBIENT

Not only do WiiWare fans get a chance to play Bomberman Blast, but we've got a surprise as well - Art Style: ORBIENT, a WiiWare game actually published by Nintendo.

Essentially it's a WiiWare version of one of the Bit-generation title Orbital for the Gameboy Advance - a simple, 2D version of Katamari essentially, flinging your planet around the level, getting within other planet orbits, and getting larger and larger.

Apparently they will be releasing two more Artstyle titles in October. This I can get behind.

bomwii02.jpg
Bomberman Blast (Hudson Entertainment, 1-8 players, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Cartoon Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): A brand new addition to the Bomberman series is available on WiiWare. Up to eight players can battle online simultaneously via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. Simple controls make this a great game for family and friends to enjoy anytime. You can trigger new items by shaking the Wii Remote™ controller, creating new levels of Bomberman excitement. You can even take the intensity up another notch by adding your own Mii™ caricatures to the mix. Battle results can be recorded on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Ranking, so you can see how you stack up against others around the globe. This title will prove to be a blast for everyone--from those who've never touched a Bomberman game to the Bomberman masters.
2nhlwrn.jpg 2zg8z6t.jpg
Art Style: ORBIENT (Nintendo, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Explore the universe like never before in Art Style: ORBIENT. Take control of gravity and anti-gravity and carefully maneuver your small star through 50 stages set in multiple galaxies. Collide with other stars to absorb them and make your own star expand in size, or capture the stars in your orbit and have them become your satellites. Space isn't empty, though, and you'll have to avoid bumping into obstacles or getting pulled into a black hole. If you feel like relaxing while still being challenged, this is the game for you. Its combination of simple controls, atmospheric sound and unique environment make for an experience unlike any other.

XBLA: XBLA This Week is War World - But Where Is Mega Man 9?

Okay, this is quite the bizarre week for Xbox Live Arcade. Capcom had announced Mega Man 9 release dates for WiiWare, PSN and XBLA - and two of them have passed and been true, the final date for the XBLA version was October 1st.

Now MajorNelson and the Gamerscore blog have revealed that only one game will be released this week, and that's War World. War World is its own bizarre beast - a game revealed a long time ago and was meant to come out back in August of 2007 - not mentioned at all until last week when IGN previewed the title. Nice to see it finally show up.

So where's Mega Man 9? Well the Xbox.com splash page is up and it says it's coming out this Wednesday, but without an official announcement it's unclear.

warworldbannerdefault.jpg
War World is a 3rd person shooter that relies as much on tactics as it does on pure firepower.

There are 16 mechanoids to choose from and as with most character selections, each has their special ability. These come in the form of Extreme Speed, High Damage Lasers, Missiles, etc.

There are 100 levels in the single player game with five varying difficulty levels. When you're ready to tackle the multiplayer side, you can choose from 4 game modes: Capture the Flag, Bomb Assault, Death Match and Team Death Match.

War World is rated T for Teen and will cost 800 MS Points.

megaman9bannerdefault.jpg
The original 2-D classic Mega Man returns in Mega Man 9 for Xbox LIVE® Arcade! This latest Mega Man title brings the series back to its old-school roots with retro action platforming gameplay and classic 8-bit graphics and sound. Relive the Mega Man experience with classically inspired bosses, each with their own unique weapons and weaknesses.

Set after the events of Mega Man 8, multiple riots have sprung up all over the world. While many people suspect that this is another plot from Dr. Wily, Dr. Light is stunned to recognize that some of the robots rioting on the TV screen are his own creations. Even more stunning, Dr. Wily appears on television to proclaim that Dr. Light is the evil mastermind behind these latest catastrophic incidents and it's up to Mega Man to clear his creator's name!

PSN, XBLA: Age Of Booty Dated - Two weeks Till We Plunder The High Seas

ageofbooty_05.jpg

The Capcom USA Blog have officially announced a date for Age Of Booty - you'll be able to buy it on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on October 15th and 16th respectively. The demos should be available on the same day as well.

I've played a little bit of Age of Booty and liked what I saw - hopefully I won't have a backlog by that point.

Much like Braid, Bionic Commando Rearmed also got some very exceptional reviews. The game is filled to the brim with content - an expanded single player campaign, offline cooperative play and multiplayer, and ridiculously difficult challenge rooms which push your abilities with the arm to the limit.

Some people would say its too difficult, that it's stuck a little too much in its initial style. I would say we shouldn't have it any other way. Once you take your time to understand just how the arm truly works, you'll be finishing levels quickly in no time.

For $10US the game really is a bargain, regardless of where you get it.

WiiWare: Yuke's Announce BPM Racing for WiiWare.

yukes_logo_black_bkg.png
Yuke's have announce BPM Racing for WiiWare.

Set to turn heads out of the starting gate and turn up the volume on television sets, BPM Racing complements white knuckle racing with a pulsating, diverse electronic soundtrack for a complete visual and audio driving experience. Riders will be rewarded for staying in rhythm with increased speeds, handling, and score multipliers, even getting the opportunity to be the DJ by adding their own samples and effects to various soundtracks.

That's pretty much it. There's no screenshots available or a real look into the title. Yuke's have also announced that they've got several other titles in production for WiiWare.

Yuke's previous game in the digital download space was Double D Dodgeball for the Xbox Live Arcade, which didn't go over so well. But hey! Beat SPOGS Racing and you've got yourself a winner. Certainly can't be hard.

PSN: Spelunker HD Announced For the PlayStation Network

spelunkerhd.jpg

In the latest Famitsu Magazine, Irem, the makers of R-Type, have announced that they will be releasing a brand new high definition version of Spelunker - a 'classic' Commodore 64 and NES title.

Not much is known right now other than its a remake of the original title. The original game can be viewed here, and the blurry screen shot available above certainly looks like the original game.

The NES version of the game is known for being exceptionally difficult due to the Spelunker having a horrible ability to jump. Will this be any different? Who knows. Best to check out the next week or two at TGS, as this is said to be one of the 11 'unannounced' titles.

XBLA: Void Star Creations Present - Project 2

prkject2.jpg

Void Star Creations, the fellows behind the fantastic but horribly under appreciated Poker Smash for the Xbox Live Arcade, have revealed their next title - Project 2!

Okay, so it's not actually called that. Right now they don't have a name, in fact its very early. Drew Card and Ryan Ellis appear to have taken the idea to explore the development from a very early stage and throw it out there for people to read. Certainly a different tactic to, say, every single WiiWare release, that's to be sure.

But even at this early stage, it's certainly looking very pretty. They've described that it will contain a big world to explore, some fast paced melee and ranged combat, RPG elements, tons of treasure, and loot. Perhaps this will be the game that will take the gap that Arkadian Warriors was unable to fill.

Definitely something to look forward to in the distant future.

WiiWare: Cave Story, Boingz Confirmed For WiiWare

Nintendo have quietly confirmed two new titles for WiiWare - After much deliberation, they've revealed that the freeware PC hit Cave Story will be coming to WiiWare!

Cave Story: This title is an action-adventure game with new, exclusive content and features created only for the WiiWare version.

WiiWare: Nintendo Reveal WiiWare Lineup - Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands And More Coming To WiiWare

bubblebobble1.png

Nintendo of Japan and itMedia have released a new list of upcoming WiiWare titles coming to Japan during 2008 and 2009. While many of them are very simple games like Mah-jong which probably won't come stateside, there are several awesome announcements within. Here are the most interesting of the lot:

Arc System Works:
- Okiraku Putter Golf
- Okiraku Sugoroku
- Okiraku Slot Car Racing

Arc System Works, known better for their Guilty Gear fighting series, plan to bring three new titles to WiiWare. A Mini Golf game, odd considering it would mean there is competition now with Fun Fun Minigolf, They previously released Family Table Tennis on WiiWare. Sugoroku is an Japanese style Backgammon game, and Slot Car Racing? Well maybe it'll be like PixelJunk Racers.

Taito:
- Rainbow Island Tower
- Bubble Bobble Wii

After Space Invaders: Get Even, Taito are on a rampage on WiiWare, bringing back Rainbow Islands and Bubble Bobble back into the limelight. If it is done by them it would be the first time for many years that both franchises would be made by Taito themselves - they've been pushing them off to third parties for some time now.

But hey, this is now the second title that my "What needs to be a downloadable title" series has got right!

Tecmo:
- Tsuppari Oo-Sumo! Wii Heyahen

Tsuppari Oo-Sumo! was actually an old NES / SNES title - a Sumo game. Looks like it'll be coming back with WiiWare. Check out this article about the old games from Hardcore Gaming 101

Hudson:
- Cue Sports : Wifi Taisen Billiards
- Boards Warrior
- MADSECTA

Cue Sports was revealed by us a few weeks ago. Boards Warrior sounds like a bizarre WiiFit Board game, and I've got no idea on what MADSECTA is.

GameLoft:
- Brain Challenge
- Tokyo City Nights

Looks like Brain Challenge is now confirmed for WiiWare. Tokyo City Nights is actually a mobile title by GameLoft, somewhat of a dating sim.

Yudo :
- Aero Drum

Yudo have previously announced Aero Guitar. It looks like they're now expanding that to Drums now.

50 titles are in this list - continue reading for the rest of them.
