WiiWare: EU WiiWare Update - MaBoShi and Critter Round-Up

It's WiiWare week in Europe - and you've got yourself two new titles!

First up is MaBoShi: The Three Shapes Arcade. Originally announced back in the initial selection of Japanese WiiWare titles as Katachi no Game: Maru Bou Shikaku, by a strange turn of events, it has been released in Europe first!

What is MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade? It’s one game but it’s also three. It’s simple to play, yet deceptively deep.

It's based on three basic shapes: circle, bar and square. There are three game windows, allowing three people to play different games at the same time, using only the A button or Control Pad. But there is a twist: each game can have an effect on the others.

In each game, the goal is the same – score a million points – but the challenge is different; whether you’re bashing enemies in Circle Mode, weaving your way through Bar Mode, or burning through a maze of obstacles in Square Mode.

MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade also features Mii characters, action replays that you can send to friends via WiiConnect24, and even a Nintendo DS download version for playing on the go! MaBoShi costs 800 Wii Points.

Way back when this game popped up on the Australian Classification Website I was attempting to figure out just who Mindware was.

Through further digging, they seem to be have history with an 90's Japanese company MNM Software, which dealt with classic SEGA titles. Then they appear to have changed their name and gone onto pinball specifically.

Just now, a brand new GDRI interview has been released with Mikito Ichikawa, President of Mindware about their history, and why they've come back to the videogame fold. Check out the first part of that interview here.

Also debuting this week is Critter Round-Up, Konami's herding game that popped up in America at the launch of WiiWare. Nice to see it finally make its way to Europe.

The critters have escaped and the barnyard is in chaos! It’s up to you to quickly corral the animals in this puzzle action challenge! You’ll have to mend fences in a hurry to keep all the critters safe and satisfied! But the fun doesn’t stop with the farmland; more than 50 challenging levels take you to several exotic locations, including the Outback, the icy Arctic and more!

There’s even a series of mini-games for when the critters get you down: Snowball Soccer, Predator Rampage, Chicken Catch, and Fence Trap. Up to four players can compete or cooperate as the critters run wild. So roll up those sleeves and grab a friend – those critters won’t catch themselves!

You can buy it now for 1,000 Wii Points. Finally, two new Virtual Console releases - Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa and Dig Dug - two previously Japanese games now available thanks to Nintendo's Hanbai festival.

Melbourne, Australia, 29 August, 2008 – Nintendo continues the third Hanabi Festival on the the Virtual Console with the release of the previously unreleased NES titles, BIO MIRACLE BOKUTTE UPA and the arcade classic DIG DUG™

BIO MIRACLE BOKUTTE UPA

BIO MIRACLE BOKUTTE UPA is a platform game released in 1988 and available now for the first time outside Japan! Players take on the role of baby Upa, a prince of the Ruakuyo kingdom, and embark on an adventure spanning seven different worlds in order to rescue the realm from the dangerous demon Zai.

Defeat the enemies you meet along the way by hitting them with your rattle. This magically inflates them and you can then use these floating enemies to your advantage by bouncing off them or even riding on top of them! Deadly thorns and dangerous pits must also be avoided whilst keeping an eye out for helpful items, which may have surprising and powerful effects.

This is a fun and involving platformer with cute graphics that wowed gamers when it was first released. Become Prince Upa and take on the demon Zai today!

DIG DUG

Taking on the role of the hero Dig Dug, wage war underground with your trusty drill! Vanquish the persistent Pookas and the deep-dwelling and draconic Fygars to clear each stage.

Defeat enemies by hitting them with your harpoon and pumping air into them, or by dropping rocks on them from above. Really rack up your score with bonus points obtained for collecting fruit or defeating particularly deep-dwelling enemies.

This classic game offers some strategic elements in addition to old-school arcade action as you lure multiple enemies into position and satisfyingly defeat them with a single rock!
