: ESRB Update - RBI Baseball, Puzzle Arcade

The ESRB has updated over the weekend with two previously unknown titles possibly coming to the Xbox Live Arcade - RBI Baseball and Puzzle Arcade.

RBI Baseball
is the name of a classic Baseball series created by Namco in the mid 80's and early 90's - RBI referring to "Run Batted In", a baseball term. However, whatever this new game is now being published by a new publisher - Six Degrees Games. Currently their website is fairly sparse, claiming they will announce something soon, so whether this game has any relation to the classic game is unknown.

What do we know about Six Degrees Games? Not a lot, just some of the current workers over there. According to linkedin.com at least two of them were big players in JAMDAT - which was a large Mobile games company back in 2006 and then bought out by EA in 2006.

My favorite is this fellow - Gerald DeYoung, who is apparently a producer over at Six Degrees Games. He's got a long list of games he's worked on, like being part of the design team of NBA '08, Producer for Daytona USA on the SEGA Satutn, and my favourite - was a tester for such games as Disney's TaleSpin, Greendog, and Make My Video: Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch for the SEGA CD. Poor guy! You have to start somewhere, that's how the games industry works!

That didn't sound like a stalker at all. Still, there is no proof that this is an Xbox Live Arcade title, but the way it suddenly pops up without prior acknowledgment is very much like a lot of other XBLA titles.

Puzzle Arcade is a game being developed by Eidos. From the looks of it, it might be the new name of Fractal Jigsaw - announced last year. It's been rated by several other sites such as the UK's PEGI rating system under the Xbox Live Arcade tab. Does Braid have competition?

Hopefully we'll hear from these projects soon. Certainly something different for the Xbox Live Arcade, if they're coming.

: Ratings Watch - Gin Rummy not enough for you? Well look out for Cribbage!

In the latest update of "Sierra games that get revealed far ahead of time", the OFLC rating has added a new game to their website - Cribbage!

Much like the case with Zombie Wranglers, the game is being published by Sierra Online, in which all previous Xbox Live Arcade games have been rated by, while games normally released are under the Sierra Entertainment label.

This will be their 4th addition to the Card & Board genre - After Carcassonne, Lost Cities, and the upcoming Gin Rummy. It appears they're getting in on that market in a big way.

So are you interested in playing online Cribbage? What other card games should Sierra or go after next? Leave a response!

So what happened with that rumored Commando 3 release this week? Apparently all a big mistake. After the UK Xbox manager apoligised for the "Street Fighter IV" error, they were asked about the release date as well, with the reply:
That was a mistake too - it's not next week's XBLA game. For saying that I've been given a spinning piledriver.
Must be coming out very soon though!

: Told you so #6 - Double D Dodgeball officially announced!

Yuke's has officially announced their first Xbox Live Arcade title - Double D Dodgeball!

DDD popped up some months ago on several classification websites with little information available. Now IGN have the scoop on just what this game is all about.

The first thing you'll noticed is that the games title is slightly misleading - there are no large breasts in this game - instead you've got some very retro, Space Invaders looking characters playing some regular Dodgeball on a 2D plane - with both Eastern and Western rule sets.

It actually looks pretty accurate to your school Dodgeball rules - no special weapons to be seen. It features several 8 player online modes. They plan to release it in the summer for 800 points.

It looks interesting, but another Dodgeball game? So soon? Pirates Vs. Ninjas Dodgeball should be coming out anytime soon - will this game still find a place on the service?

: First videos of Soul Calibur XBLA!

The website Exophase has got its hands on the first videos of Soul Calibur for the Xbox Live Arcade!

Obviously, looking very much like the original through an emulator, but I'm sure that's all people are looking for.

: Ratings watch: Galaga Legions shows up on the USK!

In the latest update on the German rating board, a new game showed up - one I don't think anyone would expect - Galaga Legions!

Galaga is a classic top-down shooter from 1981 - expanding on the Space Invaders craze of the time and the sequel to Galaxian, where you must fight waves of bugs who shoot at or dive bomb the player. The original Galaga is already available for the Xbox Live Arcade for 400 Microsoft Points.

So what could Galaga Legions possibly be? Pure speculation, but I'm really hoping that the game is Namco's next step in the Pac Man: Championship Edition line of games - one of the best titles for the XBLA and a game that is incredibly addictive. Maybe it's Namco Bandai's equivalent of Taito's Space Invaders Extreme - which also takes the Pac Man CE style of gameplay, or maybe like Wiiware's Star Soldier R!

If it's anything like Pac Man CE and Mr. Driller Online though - we won't hear a thing until 2 weeks before release. It's only shown up here - not even on the CERO - so it might start showing up on other rating systems soon.

: Interview: Ben Moy, designer of Buku Sudoku!

With the release of Buku Sudoku this week, I was given the chance to ask Ben Moy, the designer of the game, some questions on not just how the game works, but also some interesting insight on how Microsoft deals with Live Arcade titles, and what they've been up to since the announcement of the game back at E3 2007. Read on!

What games had you worked on before Buku Sudoku?

This list is quite long, having done evaluation, testing, localization, production and design, but to name a few, and more recent ones where I was the lead Producer: Disoku Apprentice, Disoku Master (Disney Sudoku PC), Triple Threat Pinball (Cartoon Network PC), Buku Kakuro PC, Buku Sudoku PC, and LASR (PC Racing).

How many people are on the Buku Sudoku team, and how long have you worked on this project?

A lot of people touch a project over 2.5 years, but I would describe the core team as 5 people, with A LOT more deservedly making it onto the credits pages, pages being very plural, especially from Microsoft and VMC.

XBLA: Aces of the Galaxy - your second game next week!

aces.jpgLooks like Microsoft may be amping up the release schedule. Previously Sierra's Aces Of the Galaxy was thought that it might reach here on the 11th of June, but now it seems that it's joining Roogoo for a two-fer week!

Sierra Online's webpage has updated with the release date, along with some small tidbits of information. You can check out that page here. If their site is anything to go by, Sea Life Safari will be next month's Sierra title for XBLA.

As well as this, IGN have a new preview with a set of environments available to the player,, and the weapons you can pick up! Check it out below.

XBLA: Ratings Watch - Feeding Frenzy 2 still on its way, Fable 2 XBLA games officially titled

feedingfrenzy.png

Have you been thinking lately "Gee, whatever did happen to Feeding Frenzy 2? It was shown back at E3 2007. Has it gone missing like Ubisoft's War World?" Well worry no more! We have an update!

... of sorts. It's been rated by the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification finally. Though not specifically just for the Xbox 360 - maybe they're thinking of a Budget PC release, or maybe even the PS3? Either way - unlike previous Popcap games like the first Feeding Frenzy or Heavy Weapon which were all rated by Microsoft, this has been rated by Popcap themselves. Interesting!

On another note, the USK has also updated with another interesting game title - Fable 2 Pub Games! The Fable 2 Pub Games have been announced before - as Keystone, Magic Tower, and Wizard's Tower but it was not specified if they would release each game separately or bundled as a single game. Looks like they are!
